Miracles-Believe in Miracles.

I forgot to tell you this true story.

But I have to admit, I've had a steak and a glass of extraordinarily delicious red wine (Hermon, right from Israel-we schlepped it back ourselves, and it is utterly delicious) so I hope I can stay up to tell the tale.

There is a woman I know who is a religious Catholic woman, and she used to come to the (formerly "Lizard" Lunches hearkening back to LGF) but now just the local VRWC lunches that I used to organize in Toronto. I promise to get back to organizing the lunches again because a few people have told me how much they liked them-so that's on my list of things to do for October!

Anyway, a couple of years ago this woman told me that she had a special needs son with autism and that things were very rough. She had seven other children, G-d bless her, and her autistic son was-if I recall in a group home for a while. I remember feeling so sad for her. I know all about special needs and believe me-I have since learned never, ever to judge, but I do remember thinking to myself wow-how can she live without her kid? So please forgive me "D" for even thinking it-because I have since seen situations that I could never handle, and I count my blessings with my own disabled son, that I can cope with his needs.

So "D" invited me to an event a couple of weeks ago and although I couldn't attend, I asked her about her son and she told me that he was doing well. He was mildly autistic, but his primary diagnosis was actually schizophrenia. I just about hit the floor.

Schizophrenia, if you have ever, ever had the misfortune to know someone or someone whose child has it-is a nightmare. It is a devastating brain illness, it is so scary and so awful. But thank G-d, they got a diagnosis, and he was able to become functional. After years of horror, breakdowns, police run-ins, etc...they figured out what it was-and best of all, he is compliant and takes his medicine. This young man is functional and has held a job doing some menial work, regularly.

He is also able to live independently with a medical team that does monitoring and home visits to make sure his medication levels are good. So, basically-a pretty good life given all he has gone through.

Then, "D" tells me that actually-he won the lottery!

Can you imagine? He played regularly with his co-workers and they won the lottery! A significant amount!

This young man then decided that despite (or perhaps because) of all that he went through with his family, that he was going to use his winnings to make their lives easier.

He decided first and foremost to pay his parents' mortgage out completely.

They were immediately able to retire.

Then he paid for all of his seven siblings' university fees-completely.

And there was enough money for him to purchase a modest but new condominium in the town where he lives, walking distance from his work and close enough for his medical team to continue to monitor him with home and clinic visits.

In short: a miracle.

I am so happy for this woman and her family. I was barely able to get the words of happiness out.

Imagine-the child that caused them such heartache-through no fault of his own, the child that likely caused the most grey hairs and the most tear-drenched nights was the one who has made their lives easier, and wiped away their financial problems. He has made their future easier.

What a blessing.

If I didn't know this woman personally, I also might be inclined to think it was an urban myth.

But it's real and it's incredible.

G-d bless you, "D" and your family.

May you always enjoy blessings. G-d heard your prayers and I am so delighted for you.

As a conservative, I believe that few stories have "happy" endings and that there are lots of good humans, but many can be rotten.

Most stories have no silver lining.

But this one did.

So I'm celebrating it.

I hope you will, too.

Must Read: "I'm Sorry, But We Have To Talk About The Barbarism of Modern Islamist Terrorism"

We do indeed.

Must read of the day.

This is an outstanding and gutsy essay from Brenden O'Neill.

"Time and again, one reads about Islamist attacks that seem to defy not only the most basic of humanity’s moral strictures but also political and even guerrilla logic. "

"What motivates this perversity? What are its origins? Unwilling, or perhaps unable, to face up to the newness of this unrestrained, aim-free, civilian-targeting violence, Western observers do all sorts of moral contortions in an effort to present such violence as run-of-the-mill or even possibly a justifiable response to Western militarism."

"It is ridiculous, and more than a little immoral, to try to dress up nihilistic assaults designed merely to kill as many ordinary people as possible as some kind of principled political violence."

He notes:

"What we have today, uniquely in human history, is a terrorism that seems myopically focused on killing as many people as possible and which has no clear political goals and no stated territorial aims. The question is, why? It is not moral masturbation to ask this question or to point out the peculiarity and perversity of modern Islamist violence. My penny’s worth is that this terrorism speaks to a profound crisis of politics and of morality."

"If you cannot see the difference between a drone strike that goes wrong and kills an entire family and a man who crashes his car into the middle of a group of children accepting sweets from a US soldier and them blows himself and them up – as happened in Iraq in 2005 – then there is something wrong with you.

Creating Human Monsters:Two Thoughts For Today

Here's a couple of thoughts for the day.

First thought. This is what is done to young Muslims in Kenya if they decide that the life of a radical is not for them:

"He was screaming, like an animal, the way a goat can be slaughtered."
Robert Spencer's post today explores the creation and nurturing of human monsters.

It describes in particular how Al-Shabab (the "youth") deal with members of their group who think about leaving and exposes a level of human barbarity and sadism that can, and should be very easily compared to the Nazis.

The originally BBC  article upon which this post is based can be found here.

"Ali said he was 13 or 14 when he traveled to Somalia. He described being forced to watch the beheading of a recruit who had tried to escape from the al-Shabab camp in Kismayo."

"His hands and legs were tied behind his back. They made him kneel down and then they took a very sharp knife, right in front of me, and slaughtered him."

"He was screaming, like an animal, the way a goat can be slaughtered."

It was a shocking warning to others who might contemplate running away.

And if that's what they do to their "friends", you can imagine what they do with their enemies-like us kufars.

"He was screaming, like an animal, the way a goat can be slaughtered."

The other critical point that a local imam makes is that contrary to the beliefs of Western intellectuals, there is no such thing is moderate Islam. These are his words-and not mine. So here's thought number two for the day.

Who are you going to believe? Your own lying ears or the imam?

Are you listening to an imam, or to the liberal, Western and (many) Jewish intellectuals who insist that there is such a thing as moderate Islam?

Here is the imam-in his own words:

"There's no such thing as a moderate Muslim. The prophets did not teach us moderation in Islam - Islam is Islam," he said.

Two thoughts for the day.

US And Turkey to Create Fund "To Stem Terrorism"

"The United States and Turkey on Friday will announce the creation of a $200 million fund to combat violent extremism by undercutting the ideological and recruiting appeal of jihadists in places like Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan, State Department officials said Thursday."

Hey-it's only $200 million, which is really, you know CHUMP CHANGE for America and it's trillion, gazillion, bazilion dollar debt but still-don't you think this is basically a load of dog squeeze? I do.

There is no amount of money that can "fight hate".

There is no amount of money that can "stem extremism"

Or "re-educate" radicals.

This is a waste of money no matter who attempts it. Jews do this when they try to "fight" antisemitism.

There is lots of money wasted here in Canada "fighting" extremism as well.

This is pointless, band-aid utopianism.

The only thing to fight is evil.

And by that I mean actually fight it and kill it.

People whose ideology is based on killing innocents and bragging about it, and enjoying it deserve to be fought, to their deaths.

Balls Spotted On Campus: UW-M Student Rejects "Diversity" Training After He is Told He is Racist

Steyn: Worse is the New Normal

So true, so true.

"Obamacare is something new in American life: the creation of a massive bureaucracy charged with downsizing you — to a world of fewer doctors, higher premiums, lousier care, more debt, fewer jobs, smaller houses, smaller cars, smaller, fewer, less; a world where worse is the new normal. Would Americans, hitherto the most buoyant and expansive of people, really consent to live such shrunken lives? If so, mid-20th-century America and its assumptions of generational progress will be as lost to us as the Great Ziggurat of Ur was to 19th-century Mesopotamian date farmers."

Nobody is thinking a few minutes, days or weeks into the future. Steyn is right. The reason that a nationalized medical system for 300 million has never been done is not because it "probably" can't work, it's is because it cannot work. It is the biggest socialist enterprise in the history of mankind and therefore, like socialism itself-will be doomed to fail.

However, that matters not to the social engineers. What matters is their noble, lofty intentions and not things that are as silly as "facts".

More from the Forbes article by Avik Roy here.  You know-full of those nasty facts.

UPDATE: "Barack Obama, Fabian Socialist"

This article is from 2008! Hat tip: Correspondence Committee.

"Who needs Molotov when you’ve got Saul Alinski?"

"So here is the playbook: The left will identify, freeze, personalize and polarize an industry, probably health care. It will attempt to nationalize one-fifth of the U.S. economy through legislative action. They will focus, as Lenin did, on the “commanding heights” of the economy, not the little guy."
"As Obama said, “the smallest” businesses will be exempt from fines for not “doing the right thing” in offering employer-based health care coverage. Health will not be nationalized in one fell swoop; they have been studying the failures of Hillary Care. Instead, a parallel system will be created, funded by surcharges on business payroll, which will be superior to many private plans."
"The old system will be forced to subsidize the new system and there will be a gradual shift from the former to the latter. The only coercion will be the fines, not the participation. A middle-class entitlement will have been created."
"It may not be health care first; it might be energy, though I suspect that energy will be nationalized much more gradually."

I am so moved by this story.

Absolutely made my day.

And kudos to the TV station for responding.

It looks like it was a government program that provided the stroller? Could that be the case-if so, how did this family slip under the radar?

Sometimes us families with kids with disabilities are embarrassed to ask for help. I'm glad this outstanding young man did. He has a special soul just like his brother. Their parents have raised them right.

Best Story of the Day: From the Mind of a Dancer, A New Kind of Wheelchair That Helps the Disabled Dance

What a beautiful story.

From the mind of a dancer to those whose bodies have challenges that able-bodied people cannot imagine.

"The kids released their wheelchairs and leg braces, the sticks that help them see and the iPads that help them speak, and piled them in a corner."

"They went to Merry Lynn Morris, with her twisting blond hair and legs like a ballerina in a jewelry box. She helped them stretch and rubbed their bellies."

"Reach your arms all the way up," she said.

"Look to the sky, and say thank you!" "Morris is a dance professor at the University of South Florida, and more recently, an inventor. She was introducing kids with spina bifida and cerebral palsy to a chair she dreamed up. On this weekend in their class, the chair would let them dance. Not pretend to dance, not be pulled by a dancer, but actually dance."

The Death of The Grown Up Indeed: Psychologists in the UK Aim To Change Adulthood From 18-25

Pathetic.

Absolutely pathetic.

"Child psychologists in Britain have issued new guidelines this week, advising doctors to change the age for maturity from 18 to 25 years old, Medical Daily reported.  According to the experts, their decision was based on recent findings relating to emotional maturity, hormonal development and neurological activity."

“The idea that suddenly at 18 you’re an adult just doesn’t quite ring true,” Laverne Antrobus, a child psychologist at London’s Tavistock Clinic, told BBC News. “My experience of young people is that they still need quite a considerable amount of support and help beyond that age.”

Right. They also need adult diapers, and pacifiers and blankies for sucking their thumbs at night, rolled up in a fetal position listening to nursery rhymes while breastfeeding from their middle aged mothers.

"When tackled on his reef cyclone furphy by IPCC expert reviewer and environmental engineer Stewart Franks, he rolled over: “I have to admit, that that was suggested to me by an Australian, and it is true, I mean, it may be a mistake. I don’t know.

"Just a few dead and blind Africans, I guess."

By the end, even Q&A’s greenie host Tony Jones looked sheepish.

Corporations are not people”, opined Suzuki at one point, prompting a twitter spurt of ridicule such as “clouds are not unicorns”.

Exhibit B:

"Asked if he still wanted to jail politicians for “denying what you call the science of climate change”, Suzuki said: “You bet..  it is a crime against future generations and there ought to be a legal position of intergenerational crime and I think there is criminal negligence.”

Saying Goodbye: Walter Mead's Tribute to His Late Mother

What a touching, beautiful tribute.

"For some among my nieces and nephews, my mother’s death marks their first real encounter with life’s greatest mystery. Someone they loved has been taken away; they now begin the transformative engagement with the knowledge of death that both marks human beings off from the animal kingdom and forces us onto the spiritual journeys that will define and shape our lives."

"My siblings and I are immigrants in a new and forbidding land. We have been swept from the balmy seas and friendly isles that nurtured us into a windswept, harder place. Several friends who have been lived in this land much longer than I have, and have traced its contours and learned to survive here tell me that while this cold new island will support life, the world without your mother will never be the same."

"Myself, I am too new to this world to grasp what I see. Deep grief seems like a monsoon; the rains sweep in and flood the streets and fields, let up for a few hours, and sweep back in again. There are moments when I break into helpless weeping; there are moments when I feel the presence of her love; there are moments when the flow of ordinary life takes over until I remember what has happened with a shock."

May she rest in peace. She sounds like a wonderful mother, woman and human being. Lovely.

Being a Christian A Death Sentence In Some Places Now

Not that it's any consolation, but being a living, breathing Jew has also been a death sentence in some places for a long time.

"Being a Christian, in some parts of the world, carries a death sentence. It carries little weight — and attracts a lot of opprobrium — in this part of the world. Having done their best to erase God from public life, secular authorities have stealthily loosened our identity as Christians. As I have written in my ebook, "No God Zone", traditional ceremonies, rituals and even pledges have been suppressed because of their "religiosity". Thus, when we witness the sufferings of our "brothers and sisters in Christ", we feel only a twinge, where once we would have felt a shock."

My Latest for Freedom Press Canada: Integration of the Disabled-Who Benefits?

I hope you enjoy it.

"As far as I am concerned, any attempts to integrate the disabled must first and foremost benefit the disabled individual. The intent must be that the disabled individual is the primary beneficiary of any program or service."

"The social benefits or any residual or ripple-effect “feel good” benefits are secondary or tertiary. In other words, my child is not a social justice project."

"It’s amazing to me how very well intentioned, intelligent and caring people and organizations (and governments) continually get this wrong."

Excellent Article by Elizabeth Renzetti: Firing People For Offensive Tweeting

I really enjoyed this article.

This is from Elizabeth Renzetti at the Globe & Mail. Read the whole thing.

Two Toronto firefighters have been fired for making "offensive" statements on Twitter.

(BTW I know plenty of women who would be delighted to make firemen pie..)

Renzetti rightly asks if firing people for having an "offensive" opinion isn't just as offensive as holding said "offensive" opinion.

This is exactly the question people need to be asking themselves.

This is what the battle for free speech is about.

The crux of the matter, the essence of liberty is that in a free society-the actual test of a free society-is that people can hold and state "offensive" opinions without fear of being punished except socially by the society that rejects that opinion.

Simply put: offensiveness is in the eye of the human beholder.

When it is a privilege held, determined and enforced by the state, it is a very short road to totalitarianism.

When people are punished by the state, or by their employer for holding offensive opinions (especially if the employer is the state), when it does not interfere with their work then they do not live in a truly free society.

Of course the exception to that are threats of violence i.e criminal activity which must be dealt with by the authorities.

It's getting harder to make the case even for libel or slander because social media puts everything out there-there is no putting the internet genie back in the bottle.

Read every word but especially this:

"There’s no indication that these firefighters were let go for any transgressions committed at work, on the company dime. If they’d made lewd comments or overtures to colleagues, that would be one thing, and you could understand that the hatchet would fall. But, in essence, they’ve been fired for (at worst) holding a set of beliefs that the rest of us find offensive or (at best) having a stupid and juvenile sense of humour. They’ve been fired for expressing their thoughts, however idiotic those thoughts are. I’m not sure that’s a road we want to be travelling."

"People who support the termination say the firefighters were contravening the City of Toronto’s social-media policy, as if those policies are holy writ brought down from the mountain, not human resources documents developed by companies to cover their bottoms in case of embarrassing exposure. Guidelines are open to question and interpretation. In the case of the firefighters, their poor judgment combined with bad timing; the fire department is making an admirable attempt to bring more women into the fold."

"Stripping someone of his or her livelihood is the direst punishment, but I fear we’re going to see more of it as the intersection between work and life becomes increasingly blurred. Workers are expected to extend their company’s “brand” online, and God help anyone who accidentally besmirches the brand."

American Lawmakers Baffled By Swelling of Disability Rolls

Baffled!

"The migration of so many people from work to the disability rolls is raising concern among lawmakers in Congress that the program is being stretched beyond its original intent of providing a safety net for former workers whose medical problems make them unable to work."
"Last week, the Government Accountability Office found that the program made $1.3 billion in potentially improper payments to people who had jobs when they were supposedly disabled. The allegedly improper payments represent less than 1 percent of disability payments."
The result: “The disability program is increasingly becoming a long-term unemployment program."

I am not sure if they are supported by the UJA/Jewish Agency funds that reach Israel, that would be interesting to find out-because they are certainly deserving of support.

You know there is that stupid, awful, over-used and schmaltzy Golda Meir saying about how there will be peace when Arabs love their children as much as they hate the Jews? I think that is preposterous and people should really think twice about saying it.

You know when there might really be peace?

When a disabled Jewish child could receive this same level of care in an Arab country.

I'll say it again, Joe O'Connor is one of Canada's best feature writers.

Beautiful: The Joys of the Grown Up Life

This is a wonderful piece.

I love it.

There are so many adults around who are only adult in age. They never want to grow up. I find it very sad.

They think they are having the time of their lives-drinking and clubbing forever. But that kind of lifestyle really does have a shelf life.

I thought this part was particularly poignant and wise:

"...sometimes I do what other people want me to do, because other people are important to me."

"Sometimes I invite people over whom I don’t like because they are lonely. Sometimes I make dinner for family members who have hurt me because there is a chance for reconciliation and life is so short."

"I am also, like Elizabeth, interested in everything, even some things that on the surface don’t appear very interesting. Like a child’s drawing, or an old man’s tale of youth."

Womb For Rent: The British Babies Who Are Made in India

This is a really interesting story.

I have such mixed feelings about it. Being a parent is the most important thing in my life, but I do worry about the ethical issues of bringing children into the world in non-conventional ways-especially in cases of disability.

I think we are just starting to scratch the surface on the debate about the ethics of this kind of reproductive technology.

"He gathered himself and said, “I know she is.”

"Others in the family gave up thinking that his father would ever be found, Steve said, but he never did. He bolstered his hope with prayer.'

I got down on my knees,” he said. “I said, ‘Before I leave this old world, I want my dad’s remains to be brought back so I can lay him to rest.’

“I never gave up on that. I held onto that. After all these years, I can close the chapter on the book of his life. The precious Lord gave me a miracle.”

"Family members have been told there could be a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery in the springtime. Arlington is backlogged by months, but Steve says he doesn’t mind and considers it right that his father should be laid to rest with those he died with on that plane."

Rest in Peace.

Very busy with Sukkot.

Read all about it.

Not possible.

Watch A Very Special Interview With Gilad Shalit

Efrat and Matanel, in cooperation with Shalva (an Israeli organization to support special needs children and young adults) interview Gilad Shalit.

Very touching. And Shalit looks much healthier physically, but still-clearly haunted.

Very classy to mention Netanyahu. Shalit's father, in my books, is still a completely classless, dirt bag. I am total waterworks right now. Gah!

News You Can Use: Men and Beards

I remember a few years ago being in Boystown in Chicago and my companion at the time told me that if you want to see what is upcoming in fashion for the mainstream, heterosexual community, just take a look at at what men are wearing in the local gay village.

At the time (about four years ago) the woodsman, bearded, gruffy scruffy man look was everywhere in Boystown.

Plaid shirts, washed out jeans, beat up boots, pick up trucks, etc...

And lo and behold a few short years later-beards are men's number one fashion accessory!

All hail men's facial hair! Hipsters now are all over the beard!

I think most men look very masculine with a little bit of growth on their face.

Personally, I really, really, really dislike the look of men who are shaved as smooth as a baby's bottom and shiny. GAH.  A blogger not long ago called this type of man Moisterizer.

HAHAHHAHAHA!

My husband only shaves once a week, and only deviated from this routine while in the army and before our wedding.

I must say though that goatees are really, really dated. Seriously men-if you are sporting a goatee, please consider getting a style upgrade.

Your women folk will thank you.

Bereaved 9/11 Father: The Trials Have Been Going on Too Long

Absolutely.

Which makes me feel that the trials are actually just optics. Twelve year trials mean "justice" is not served-just a facade maintained.

The trials punish the families more than they punish they accused.

But perhaps that is the point.

Fantastic story.

Just fantastic.

Heartache: Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post Breaks Up With Current Administration

"I have not encountered a single person outside the White House in the last few weeks, Republican or Democrat, who has kind words for Obama's performance. Scornful may not be too strong a word for the consensus view, though it is scorned leavened, at least among the more thoughtful critics, with appreciation for the no-good-options reality of Syria."

Ouch.

Lovely.

About That Ban on Guns At Military Bases

This is an interesting comment-why would Democratic legislators ban guns, i.e strip military service men and women of their Second Amendment rights at the very place and point of service for the country that they have sworn to represent?

It's pretty sick stuff.

Having lived in Israel, I can tell you that it made me feel very secure to know that many, many individuals around me had guns. A lot of terrorists were stopped in the past by armed civilians-stopped before they did even more damage and taken more lives than they had originally planned.

And by "stopped" I mean killed.

It's certainly something to think about.

I clearly missed the press release about the opportunity to jump said Canadians in the Senate parking lot.

Rest in Peace: Bodies of Second World War Airmen Pulled From Muskoka Lake

It is never too late to treat fallen heroes with respect and dignity.

RIP.

When the Government Owns Your Body

Here's an interesting story out of the United States.

The federal government is seeking inclusion of "social and behavioural" information in health records.

Health information is personal enough, but at least it is factual. However social and behavioural information is subjective-and this is pretty freaky stuff.

For a very, very, very, very smart look at the topic of government monopolies on your body, you must read George Jonas.

"Alberta's one-tier medical mantra: Your body belongs to the swarm."

GAWD that man is smart.

Read the whole thing.

Steyn: American Ineffectualism

Another excellent essay from the great Mark Steyn PBUH (profits be upon him). He takes a look at Vlad Putins "It's Not Me, It's You" letter to Obama via the New York Times op-ed pages.

I wonder if the administration got a heads up that President Obama's nuts were going to be served up Russian style.

American Ineffectualism

How sad that such a glum topic is Steyn's subject du jour...week...4 years, but I digress....

Of course you must read the whole thing, but is a sample:

"With this op-ed Tsar Vlad is telling Obama: The world knows you haven’t a clue how to play the Great Game or even what it is, but the only parochial solipsistic dweeby game you do know how to play I can kick your butt all over town on, too."

"This is what happens when you elect someone because he looks cool standing next to Jay-Z. "

Another Yom Kippur Infographic

Have an easy and meaningful fast everyone!

Oy yoi yoi Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur Begins at Sundown This Evening

I am loving this infographic.

Everything you wanted to know about Yom Kippur but were afraid to ask. Fantastic visual representation of Judaism's most holy day.

I find Yom Kippur a very peaceful time. It's a spiritual window of sorts. When food and drink are removed from one's day, time passes in a very different manner. There is a lot of time for thought and prayer, and I find it comforting.

Bonus Yom Kippur message from the great Caroline Glick who notes, no heads have rolled in the wake of the 20th anniversary of Israel's nightmare known as the Oslo accords.

She says:

"The absence of regional peace has nothing at all to do with Israel."

"It stems from the virulent Jew-hatred that is endemic throughout the Islamic world."

"Due to this hatred, Israel’s neighbors seek its destruction. The centrality of their irrational, obsessive desire to seek the eradication of the Jewish people and the Jewish state is the reason there has been no true peace between Israel and its neighbors – including its Palestinian neighbors."

"And because their hatred is irrational and all-encompassing, there is nothing Israel can do to appease them."

There is nothing Israel SHOULD do to appease them either.

And this goes for Israel's Jewish and non-Jewish critics and foes alike.

"Don't Pity Me Or Think of Me As Different"

Inspiring.

Students Flee School District Where Teachers Defended Child Molester

Educators puzzled!

BAFFLED!

“I can’t speculate as to why the students have left, but there were certainly parents who vocalized that they were pulling their children out of school because of the teacher’s support,” West Branch-Rose City School Superintendent Daniel Cwayna told FoxNews.com.

“We addressed the issue as best we could without infringing upon the teacher’s first amendment rights. There’s only so much we can do.

Extra bonus illiterate teacher letter of support:

"Teacher Harriet Coe weighed in with her letter."

“Neal has plead (sic) guilty for his one criminal offense but he is not a predator,” teacher Harriett Coe wrote.

“This was an isolated incident. He understands the severity of his action and is sincere in his desire to make amends.”

UK: Justice is Blind and Also-Apparently Veiled

This will be an interesting case to watch.

Vlad Putin's "It's Not Me, It's You" Article in the New York Times

Read the whole thing.

Vladimir Putin emerges as the current world superpower, and is getting more ink and more press on American foreign policy than the American administration. That's pretty freaky stuff.

Is it just me, or is he telling President Obama via this article that he is not a special snowflake?

Danny Levin: First Victim of 9/11

"A veteran of an elite unit in the Israeli Defence Force who understood Arabic, Lewin appears to have immediately understood what was happening and challenged the terrorists, who were armed with box-cutters and knives."

"It was an act of extraordinary courage which was to cost him his life. As the former commando fought with Satam al-Suqami, one of the five who had taken the plane, he was fatally stabbed.

Half an hour later, at 8.46am, the Boeing 767 became the first plane to crash into the Twin Towers. All 81 passengers, nine crew members and the two pilots died."

Michelle Malkin: America's Unfinished Business

An outstanding article by Michelle Malkin.

I agree with everything she has written here.

I would only add that we must have vigilance also with the language used.

Lives were not "lost".

Innocent people were murdered.

There is a big difference.

We cannot use passive language. Whoever controls the language controls the battle.

Obama "Outperforming Even Jimmy Carter As Most Feeble President in American History"

Ouch.

That's gotta hurt.

Great piece here by Nile Gardiner on Obama's "speech".

He noticed that President Obama has outsourced American foreign policy to Russia. Hey-no biggie, right?

"...these were the words of an exceptionally weak and indecisive president, one who seems to be making up policy on the hoof, as he stumbles and bumbles along on the world stage, with his hapless Secretary of State in tow".

Meanwhile, in America...

I don't have a problem with religious headgear per se.

I do have a problem with the niqab.

And, I have a problem with how the problem is defined.

The hijab is either a religious imperative ("I have to wear this for my religion.") or not ("The hijab is a woman's free choice, completely free choice.")

It can't be both.

A very chilling checklist about the Road to Socialism by someone who actually lived it.

A must read.

Poverty in New Jersey reaches 52 year high.

Racismophobia

Racismophobia is a fear of being called a racist.

This fear animates much of our culture and political discourse and lack thereof.

Read this article about why Hollywood is silent on Syria, except for Ed Asner and Mike Farrell.

Apparently, Hollywood types are afraid to speak out against President Obama for fear of being labeled "anti-black".

Insanity.

Worse Than Jimmy Carter

Never thought I would get to the point where I could say-hey, there is now an American President who is worse than Jimmy Carter, but here we are.

There are many reasons why Obama is worse, but one of them is certainly that the threat posed by Khomeni fundamentalists in Iran, which Jimmy Carter bungled entirely in 1979 is exponentially worse and a world existential threat now that Iran can become nuclear on Obama's watch.

That's definitely worse.

It saddens me to see America whimper along.

But before Reagan there was Carter.

That's what I will try to focus on. The turning of the tide in Australia is interesting indeed.

For all the talk by the elites about their natural right to govern, uppity regular people and facts just seem to get in the way sometimes.

I'm currently reading "Hell to Pay: The Unfolding Story of Hilary Rodham Clinton" by Barbara Olson.

If you want a very disturbing picture of who and what is ruling America right now, I would urge you to check it out.

Shana Tova, I'm Baaaaaaaaack

Just brewing the first cup of coffee after the three-day holiday fiesta.

Lots of apples, honey, food, company, family, walks, parks, good conversation. A great start to a New Year.

I'm catching up on the news from the past few days so bear with me as I get my links together.

Start with this:

"America-the weak and unreliable ally."

I would put ally in scare quotes nowadays.

With an "ally" like this, Israel is clearly on its own.

Shana Tova! Blogging to Resume Sunday!

It's the Jewish New Year!

Rosh Hashana starts on Wednesday evening. It's two full days, that roll right into the Sabbath eve.

That means, for observant Jews-it's a three-day holiday sucker and we won't be on line till Saturday night.

So a happy, healthy and sweet New Year to all.

May G-d protect the Jewish people, the State of Israel and all the brave IDF soldiers who guard Israel day and night, and all the security forces within Israel and throughout the world who watch out for Jews everywhere.

I'll be cooking up a storm all day and probably won't get to blogging until Sunday.

Mystery Diner Pays for Dinner For Family With Special Needs

This is a nice story. Just a feel good story.

We don't go out to restaurants really as a family. It's just not worth it for the most part for many reasons, too personal and numerous to list.

But I have to tell you, the odd time when people have said to me something supportive in a spontaneous, heartfelt way, has given me a lot of strength at times where I didn't feel like I had anything left to give.

I hear their words in my head and can take a few more steps forward.

It was very sweet for this anonymous person to do such a nice thing. But there are lots of other inexpensive and cost-free ways to make a difference in someone's life.

The idea that special parents have been chosen to be with special needs kids doesn't really resonate with me.

(And that horrible, piece of crap "Welcome to Holland" is an insult and a revolting literary turd, because having a disabled child is not "Holland" it's more like Gaza City, Beirut in the 1970s or Mogadishu. Don't anyone ever, every BUT EVAH send that to me.)

I find more comfort in something that I read a while back, where a mother was crying and saying "why us", and her husband hugged her, but said "well, why not us".

Why me?

Why my son?

Why not us? Why not him?

The fact is that terrible, horrible, sad, heart-breaking things happen in this big world every day, every minute.

If it's not you, just try to enjoy that.

Human moments-hours, days and years without pain, illness or loss are very precious.

But unfortunately it takes bad things to happen for people to realize that they had pretty damn near perfect lives before.

So enjoy the perfect-today.

Like right now.

You're welcome.

The semi-illiterate judge is clearly still smarting from the response to her judgement.

Not surprising that she is sticking to her guns.

She'll thankfully be off the case soon, but clearly has had the capacity to do a lot of damage.

This is probably her last laugh but as has been oft pointed out-the process is most often the punishment in such cases.

Many conservatives and free speechers have been punished financially, professionally, emotionally and psychologically by lawfare and human rights cases.

No matter who "wins" the conservative is most always decimated because the process usually causes more damage that any award would

Must Read: Obama Unleashes Horror in Jerusalem

Sage words from David Horowitz of the Times of Israel.

I think he is absolutely on the money with this analysis. Particularly this:

"The notion that the US would turn its back on the toxic crimes of a murderous dictator, whom Kerry bracketed Sunday with Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein, is too dire to consider in an Israel facing more than one hostile regime relentlessly seeking to exploit any military and moral weakness in order to expedite the Jewish state’s demise."
"Though dutifully silent in public, Jerusalem has quickly internalized the damage already done — by the sight of an uncertain president, all too plainly wary of grappling with a regime that has gradually escalated its use of poison gas to mass murder its own people; a regime, moreover, that can do relatively little damage to the United States, and whose threats Israel’s leadership and most of its people were taking in their stride."
