Long-Run Silence by Mark Steyn

Another excellent essay by the great Mark Steyn PBUH.

I imagine Herr Professor must be smarting just a touch as Steyn points out that being married to one of the bravest women on the planet hasn't toughened up Niall Ferguson enough to just shrug off the Gaystapo for being offended by his been-there-done-that comments on a dead gay economist with no brain.

His gorgeous, brave wife puts her life on the line to defend Western values and gets death threats from Muslim fanatics who want to slit her throat like they did Theo Van Gogh, and Professor Ferguson caves because a few exquisitely sensitive activists clearly did not understand the absolute banality and inocuous nature of his remark about Keynes.

Theo Van Gogh pathetically pleaded 'can't we just talk about this' when his throat was slit by an Islamic terrorist who did not appreciate his movie.

So the answer in common from both the Islamic terrorist and from the precious California left is-hell no-we cannot and will not talk about this, so just SHUT UP.

So, he dutifully shut up.

How pathetic.

What are you so afraid of, Professor?

As Steyn notes, "the new enforcers are happy to shrivel free speech precisely in order to render dissenting views impossible even to articulate — on gays, immigrants, economics, anything".

Clearly-that is not the only thing that has shriveled from our intellectual and moral superiors at Harvard university.

We need to tell THEM to shut up, and keep telling our jokes, and making our inocuous and offensive observations, and laughing and living until they keel over and die from their dreadful, joyless, soft totalitarian lives.

And if you don't tell THEM to either shut up or lighten up, then you're part of the problem, too.
