Another fantastic essay from Mark Steyn:
Big, Politically Correct Brother
How apt a title for the current American administration.
As he notes:
"Even in the wake of a four-figure death toll, with the burial pit still smoking, the formal, visible state could not be honest about the very particular threat it faced, and so in the shadows the unseen state grew remorselessly, the blades of the harvester whirring endlessly but, don’t worry, only for “metadata.”
Exactly-the reason that "everyone" is suspect is because "nobody" will talk about what the real threat is. It's not "terror" or "Islamism". It's Islamic terrorism, i.e terrorism committed by Muslims. They are terrified of identifying the terrorists. So, how can any of these "bozo leviathans" possible "protect" us?
They can't, so they hide under the shell of airport kabuki security theatre (I have also gotten the TSA boob search and naked scan, and had my palms swiped for explosives because Lord knows, Jewish mothers from suburban Toronto are well know for their propensity for terrorism), and pretend that everyone is equally suspicious.
This, in turn, makes nobody safe and helps the terrorists exponentially with their planning and the execution of future episodes. As Steyn notes, the terrorists make their intentions perfectly clear. They tell us what they are going to do, they do it, and then they tells us what they have done. Crystal clear.
As Barry Rubin suggests, we should be listening to what the leaders are saying.
Note: I think it's really goofy and cowardly to call them "Islamist"-I am so sick of that. What a load of hooey. There were no "Nazists", and there are no "Jewists".
The term "Islamist" is a bunch of crap and as Diana West has pointed out in her totally outstanding book "The Death of the Grown Up" (MUST READ, I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK), only the delusional multi-cultists could possibly refer to "Islamism". Nobody was waiting for a Nazi reformation, or a Communist reformation.
Alas, we are surrounded in the West by gutless wonders. The "bozos", as Steyn points out who see everything but are ever blind, by choice of course, to what really matters.
