Steyn: Live Brie or Die

Ha!

I was just catching up on some Steyn posts, and saw this:

Live Brie or Die

"From the cheese board to the data bank to the death panel is a shorter journey than you’d imagine. People think my book is about demography and Islam. In fact, it’s about liberty, and when it comes to liberty I want it all — assault weapons and Mimolette, guns and butter."

I completely agree!

Vive Le Big Fromage Mark Steyn!

The funny thing is that I saw this remarkable letter in the National Post a few days ago on Canada's "Dairy Apartheid".

Whenever over-regulation inserts itself in your life, you have to fight back. It really doesn't matter if it's cheese.

That is the reason why I could never, ever, ever live in a kibbutz.

My friend, the ever hatey hatey Kathy Draidle says that there really is a Monty Python skit for everything. To which I must add, that there is a Margaret Thatcher quote for everything.

I am currently reading: Margaret Thatcher-In Her Own Words (Edited by Iaine Dale: Biteback Publishing, London 2010).

I highly, highly, highly recommend it.

Get it from the library or buy it-you won't regret it. So inspirational.

Dynamite stuff!

FOR REAL AND NOT FOR JOKING.

There is a page where she talks about the private home ownershp initiative undertaken by her Conservatives. And one little anecdote stuck to me like glue about council homes. Why are the socialists so militant about what colour your door is on a council house? Why-it's all about control, and if they let you choose the colour of the door, you'll want to choose other things, and maybe even want to own your own property-and thus, the whole socialist house of cards comes down. So-no choices for the individual-not ever.

That is why on an individual level, people have to fight back the seemingly "small stuff".

Encroachments on personal liberty are not really "small stuff" after all. They add up, they snowball. The stakes always get bigger.

There is no "small stuff" when it comes to personal libery and free speech.

Thus:

A nice Steynism (not in the same league/category as "excitable lads", but getting right up there):

"When it comes to liberty, I want it all."

WINNING!
