A Polish Historian's Accounting of the Holocaust Divides His Countrymen

I've written previously about Poland, inspired partly by Helen "Jews get back into the ovens in Europe" Thomas and my own trip with my father to Poland.

You may remember some of these postings, and the subsequent, epic smack down by Mark Steyn of one of my critics.

(*Waves to Mark-that Mailbox piece is still Steynamite x like ELEVENTY MILLION, and I would say the smack down was moderately arousing but that would be totally inappropriate!!*)

Here's one related post from the National Review.

More here and here.

Jan Gross, whose book Neighbors is a very painful read (but important if you can stomach it) has published a new book on the "Treblinka gold rush" that I will be sure to read.

Looks like some prickly Poles have already started commenting on this story and the book and they are not amused....

Unfortunately, just because something is morally repugnant, despicable and heinous-that does not make it untrue. In fact, the more reprehensible behaviour is, the more reflective it is of the very human flaws that are within many individuals.

That is why we must always make conscious efforts to moderate the base instincts, to acknowledge the frailty and the animal, visceral that is within us. Only by making hundreds, if not thousands of daily and weekly choices toward civility and morality can we have any hope of moderating the animal, the evil inclinations and the Yetzer Ha'rah.

My favourite living Italian on the anti-Jewish necrophilia of the West.

WOW!!!

"My fellow journalists based in Israel prefer not seeing the dormitories, the schools, the streets, the sports arenas and the events named by the Palestinian Authority after 50 mass murderers. There is no precedent in the history of humanity for this god of death. Signs on the walls of Palestinian kindergartens currently proclaim their students as “the shaheeds (martyrs) of tomorrow”.

What was I saying about evil?

"The Arabic word “idbah” is taken from the butchers’ vocabulary and brings to the mind the defenseless tied-up animal under the knife of the slaughterer. That’s why the Arabs referred to the Jews as awlad al-miyteh (“the children of the corpse”). The Israelis have seen things that are worse than suicide bombings, like Palestinian gunmen shooting three children in their beds or terrorist chopping off their Jewish victims’ testicles and shoving them in their mouths."

"Evil has found a home in Ramallah, the PA capital. It’s called necrophilia."
