Gah!
Depressing article a la "After America".
Feel like banging your head on the keyboard-then read the whole thing. It's a Steynian horror story from California, from San Bernadino where the city is broke, but firefighters still make $100K a year.
Where the city is officially "dead", and beyond redemption-according to the article. Their words, not mine.
For I refuse to believe that anything in America is beyond redemption if (and it's a big if) the matters of the soul are addressed.
Even more than a fiscal problem, America has a moral and dependency problem. Those are harder to fix.
Anyway, the Germans have noticed that America is screwed.
