Singing Lullabies to Premature Babies Helps Them Leave Hospital Earlier

I am completely verklempt about this article.

When my son was in the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) for months on end, the best parts of the day were just when I could hold him, skin against skin and rock him and sing to him. I still sing to him and it still calms him no matter what situation we are in.

One day, when I came down to the hospital, he wasn't in his crib and I panicked momentarily. It turned out that he was being cuddled and sung to by a volunteer granny.

Can you imagine? Among all the dreck of this world, among all the bad people, there are little old ladies who volunteer to hold and rock sick infants and sing to them until their parents can get there?

It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life.

Thirteen years later-I remember that moment as if it happened yesterday.

So sing to your babies.
