Speaking of "Not Optimal"

"Not optimal."

Is there something not incredibly disturbing about a President who cannot think through the words that are required when discussing his fellow, murdered countrymen?

The detachment is so cold, kind of monstrous actually.

Pat Smith, the bereaved mother of Sean Smith, who was murdered in Behghazi, isn't very happy with the President's choice of words. 

"My son is not very optimal - he is also very dead."

When citizens are murdered in terrorist attacks, people look to their leader for guidance and comfort, for words of prayer, for solace. The President has called those murdered 'folks' and referred to the murdered Ambassador as "Chris", claimed that these murders are 'bumps on the road' and now, that having dead Americans to deal with is "not optimal".

I was thinking back to the terrorist attack in Naharayim, Israel when Israeli school girls were murdered on a field trip by a Jordanian terrorist. Now, King Hussein was not exactly a huge, gushing fan of Jews, although he did have some good contacts with Jews and some very important shared strategic considerations with Israel. 

However, when those girls were murdered, he made a trip to Israel and paid condolence visits to the grieving families. He sat on the floor with the Jewish families, as per Jewish tradition, and offered his condolences. That was quite extraordinary. 

 The President of the United States of America has Air Force One at his disposal all the time. Amidst the campaigning, amidst the dinners and the Hollywood fundraisers, would it not have been possible to make four trips to four grieving families? Not to face an inquisition, but to say-those citizens, those fellow Americans meant something to me and to our country. 

They were not bumps on the road. 

They were optimal human beings at the prime of their lives. 

"My son is not very optimal - he is also very dead."

Leaders need to be there and say: we mourn with you. We can't possibly know your pain, but we are here with you. 

Leaders lead the way to the grieving family, they don't run away from the broken families.

One comforting hug for each mother and father. 

For each sibling, to give them strength. 

For the grandparents.  

For the children. 


Clearly, empathy is beyond President Obama's capability. 

How sad. And how chilling.

Speaking of the Middle East, here's a more encouraging voice for the region. 

I disagree with Shimon Peres on just about everything, but being vocal about calling for the overthrow of the Ayatollah regime in Iran is a good thing. Unfortunately, with the current administration in the White House-Iranian democrats, young people, women and students will once again be thrown to the wolves. They should probably wait until November!

Iran needs, in America, a Reagan equivalent, or at least "Reagan-ish" in order to achieve anything that even remotely resembles democracy.

The Entitlement Crack Addicts of America

Here's an article I was just reading: The Trillion Dollar Cost of Welfare .

Trillion. Why not just use the word "bazillion", because that's about the level of understanding that people seem to have about basic economic issues.

Guess what the reality is of American fiscal life. Here's a sample:

Now, with extra bonus what-the-hell-is-going-on-in-America info:

This is the official message about food stamps that the federal government is promoting: 

“Everyone wins when eligible people take advantage of benefits to which they are entitled.”

 

This is a document that is part of the federal government's (USDA/SNAP program) "community partner outreach tool kit"

How on earth can that be possible? 

Everyone in a free society loses when they become addicted to the narcotic effect of entitlements.

But your government, my American friends-is telling you something else. It's telling you that it's better, better for everyone if you become a dependent, incapacitated entitlement zombie.

This is a terribly unnerving phrase and a woeful story, with no happy ending anywhere in sight-even if Romney wins. 

American Public School Teacher Charged With Assault as a Result of "Islamic Hand Sign Drill"

A public school teacher in Virginia has been charged with assault, and apparently has a repeat history of trying to indoctrinate her students in Islamic teachings. 

I thought the Toronto District School Board was bad enough, but assault coupled with religious indoctrination is certainly much worse.

I'm So Tired of Bullying

There has been a lot of talk in the media lately about bullying, especially online bullying.

Everyone has an opinion and of course I have one, too.

My opinion is that kids have to be taught to be tough and not break down when someone calls them names or is cruel to them. I think that these discussions have to be at the dinner table and parents have to take an active role in helping children develop the confidence-not the "self-esteem" to deal with bullies. The other issue is that some children have mental health issues that are completely exacerbated by bullying. That's a whole other ball game.

Additionally, there are some activities that are criminal assaults, or criminal harassment-and those matters should be taken care of by the police-if only they would do their job.

I have been called plenty of fantastic names in my time and won't crumble.

I don't want to be legislated into a zombie like silence "for the children".

The whole anti-bullying movement is a whining, emasculated house of cards. When kids actually do ask for help, it often turns into a blame the victim situation. The bullied child is encouraged to move to another school because nobody has the guts to deal with the bully for fear of ruining the bully's self-esteem.

The anti-bullying movement (actually, it is bordering on a cult nowadays) is useless, and is just thinly veiled camouflage for belligerent activists to try to control other people's behaviour, and ram utopian fantasies about us all getting along, down our throats.

There have always been humans who behave badly and those who prey on children. That will never change.

There are no social contstrains on any kind of anti-social behaviour anymore. There are no public rebukes to anyone who behaves publicly in an inappropriate way.  Personal modesty and public propriety are old-fashioned relics for most of the Western world. This is the world that the permissive left has created. 

That genie can't be rammed back into the bottle. So instead of admitting a colossal mistake and having a return to more public decorum, or shaming bad behaviour, we are once again told that "if only" we listen to our betters, the world will be a happy place and bullying will be a thing of the past.

People are bullied all the time. The only time any governmental force should be involved is when criminal activity has taken place.

Being an asshole cannot be a criminal offense in a democracy.

My Idiot People

Apparently, Israeli police are not terribly interested in a pedophile ring in the middle of downtown Jerusalem in the neighbourhood of Nahlaot. 

This is disgraceful.

Nahlaot is an amazing place-I've lived there myself, but really the point is not the neighbourhood. The point is that the Israeli police are not flexing all the muscle it has against the pedophiles.

Perhaps if Israel advocacy organizations start to post about this, and Tweet about it, etc...there might be some movement toward protecting the children of Jerusalem instead of their disgusting predators.

Unbelievable: Moronic American Judge Allows 9/11 To Appear in Court in Camoflauge

What the hell? 

‘If these defendants were members of the Klu Klux Klan and they were on trial for killing a black family, for burning their house, would they be allowed to wear their Klan uniforms in court to show their solidarity with their fellow Klan members? Absolutely not!

Interestingly, the judge in this case is  Army Col. James Pohl. The Daily Mail reports that though it happened in 2000, Mr Pohl is still working on the case relating to the suicide attack that left 17 American soldiers dead on board the U.S.S. Cole and he is also still working on the USS Cole case, even though it happened in 2000! 

Why the hell should they be allowed to wear anything except prison uniforms? Very weird stuff.

Three Psychological Tricks That Salespeople Play on You

I have been thinking about this for a while, and want to put it 'out there'. I should also preface this by saying that I really hate sales. There are people who love it and are really good at it, but I really don't like it. There really is an art to it.

But here are my top three head fakes that salespeople have used on me.

These are examples of very small purchases, but I imagine the psychological warfare is demonstrably stronger when higher ticket items are at stake (cars, appliances, renovations, etc..).

ONE: "Oh, I love that [piece of garbage tchochke]."

A friend who worked at an amusement park told me that this is one of the major feel-good techniques used at every gift/crap shop in the park. No matter what piece of garbage the customer decides to buy, at the cash, the cashier is meant to eye it, smile and exclaim "oh-I loooooooove that [whatever]". The customer instantly feels good about their purchase and will likely repeat the action on future visits.



TWO:  "Oh, that's my favourite colour-I have it at home!"

This was used on me a few weeks ago when I was getting a pedicure. Have you ever seen a woman pick out a colour for her manicure or pedicure? It's excruciating and ridiculous, as if it's some kind of permanent commitment. I picked out a colour (and please-save the JAP accusations, I had a gift certificate that I still hadn't redeemed two years from when it was given to me), and the spa worker gushed "ooooh, that's my favourite colour-I have it at home".

Unfortunately for her, I heard her repeat the same script with the client that directly followed me. What a coincidence! Two favourite colours, and she has BOTH at home! Same attempt at feel good, you made a great choice, you go girl kind of shrinky-dink thing.



THREE: "Oh, I have that [random menu item that sounds moderately interesting] all the time, I love it."

Same idea. You ask the waiter about an item on the menu that you're not sure about and hear, magically, that it is either their favourite item on the menu, or that they eat it all the time!

I'd actually prefer an honest assessment about what really is worth trying. The last time I got this line I got a vomitateous soup that almost burned my tongue off because it was so spicy.

Socialism-The Rich Will Get Poorer, and the Poor Will Get Poorer, Too

I got a little verklempt watching it.

This is a terribly sad story from Israel about a Druze IDF soldier whose remains were finally located, after many years of being considered MIA. 

May he rest in peace.

I have been to a number of Druze villages and even once interviewed the head of the Druze Zionist Council (I know, isn't that wild?!?!?), and their relationship with Israel and with the Jews is really quite remarkable. The Druze are a fiercely loyal, brave and hospitable people and they are blood brothers with the Jews of Israel.

I watched about half of the debate between Biden and Ryan with my eldest.

It was disgusting the way Biden started off with a whopper about Libya, and how no extra security was requested, and the proceeded to smirk and interrupt Ryan constantly and without rebuke from the moderator.

Biden represents everything that disgusts me about the left. He is the epitome of an over confident, lying, arrogant bully with little concern for facts or reality.

I also felt like Ryan could have been a bit more assertive. He was very polite to his incredibly debate partner.

Anyway, here is a good summary:

Update on York Region Catholic School Board

So I did receive a reply regarding the Michael Moore movie extravaganza that was passed off as summer school for one of my kids this summer.

Here's what I received:

I regret the anxiety caused to you and your daughter over the issue at summer school.

After receipt of your email I did follow up with the superintendent and the administrator  of summer school.

It is my understanding that your concern was brought forward during the summer and the teacher did acknowledge that in the future he would check to see if the students had understood the varying opinions and the balanced view of the issues.

We have spoken to the teacher about the use of two films in a two week session.  We will also be instructing the principals of summer school to speak with the staff on the use and number of films  in the course.

Bernie Farber's Long Standing Romance With the Roma

It was last night when I read Joanne Hill's article in the Jewish Tribune about Bernie Farber and how helpful he is being to the Roma community in preparing a dossier for the police, with the express hope of having Ezra Levant criminally charged with hate propaganda. 

Kathy has covered it off nicely, as have Blazing Cat Fur and scaramouche.

If you read the Tribune article, you will also note that Farber is waging a war against Jason Kenney, for trying to curb the abuse of the immigration system by faux Roma refugees.

I did a little bit of research about Bernie's longstanding love affair with the Roma. He used the offices of the Canadian Jewish Congress as the headquarters for a long list of ridiculous liberal causes that had absolutely nothing to do with Jewish issues in Canada, or in Israel for that matter. Roma, Darfur, Aboriginal rights, scholarships for Somalis, etc..

Due to copyright issues, old articles can't be posted here-but believe me, they do paint a very interesting picture. This love affair goes back a long time. 

Here's a piece dating back from 2003 from NOW Magazine.

Lots of energy and money (donations to the Jewish community) and public funds (appeals) have been expended on this pet cause and on the 'hate speech' and 'hate propaganda' files in general by Bernie and his ilk. It's just very unusual.

Bernie has a lot of strange friends, like his friends at ISNA.

There is also, for example, an interesting Toronto Star article from a number of years ago by Old Guard lefty Jew Michelle Landsberg in which she notes that Bernie Farber helped railroad the building of a mosque in Mississauga, despite the objections of the local politicians-and that he got a standing ovation for that at the ISNA conference for that. 

This is a very troubled person-a liberal who just happened to be born Jewish, looking for virtue in all the wrong places.

He wants everyone who is not of his liberal mentality (more like a religion actually) to just shut up.

And a lot (if not most) public bodies have done the bidding of the left for a long time, so I guess that is what people like him are used to. The freedom of the internet gives us the freedom to disagree publicly in an unprecedented way. That disturbs Lefty's totalitarian equilibrium.

So how dare we speak out and blog, and how dare we elect a Conservative majority! How dare our Minister of Citizenship and Immigration curb abuse of our refugee and immigration system!

The truth is that Stephen Harper's Conservative government is the most philosemitic and pro-Israel government ON THE PLANET except for Israel's.

Brian Mulroney of course was also a good friend of Israel, but the stakes are higher now with Israel facing existential threats from Iran on a daily basis (maybe Irwin Cotler could send another memo to Ahmedinejad or something telling him to back off).

Stephen Harper has proven to be a visionary leader with values firmly grounded in Judeo-Christian civilization-and unapologetically so. 

This drives leftists like Bernie bananas.Therefore, we need to all shut up.

Look at the names of the people who are supporting Jason Kenney and the University of Haifa!

Maybe some of them should tell Bernie to shut up??

Absolutely disgusting. A Houston news outlet has investigated:

"Local 2 Investigates examined two other letters sent by Obama to families of soldiers killed in action. The one-page typed condolence letters were identical other than names, ranks and service branches."

Gender Bending In Canada

Otherwise known as grooming, pedophilia, etc...

Kathy and Arnie and SUN TV have done the lion's share of posting on this stuff. 

I just want to relay an anecdote that a contact of mine shared with me last week.

This person is more politically liberal than I am, but she was deeply disturbed by the washroom and the veggie-sex issues relating to the Toronto District School Board. Actually, she was outraged.

I told her that is about grooming children, and de-sensitizing them against their proper, normal modesty about sex. It's about control, and breaking down the nuclear family. It's very Gramscian.

She said that she was at a park in her neighbourhood of Toronto and her children were playing with a young girl with long curly blonde hair and a pink shirt. She started to make small talk with the mother, and said how nice it was that her kids were playing so nicely with that woman's daughter.

The woman paused and said-actually, that's my son.

My friend didn't know what to do except to say "oh, OK".

I asked her if she noticed that these mental cases never experiment with their own "gender" issues, that they just turn their children into living "gender" experiments, and that I feel it's a form of child abuse.

She agreed.

But worse-her kids, on the way home said how much they liked playing with that little girl. My friend said she didn't know what to do. She told her kids that actually, that was a little boy. Her kids were freaking out. They insisted the child was a girl. There was no way, they said, that that child was a boy. The argued with her the whole way home.

Several hours later, her youngest came to her out of the blue, hysterial and bawling her eyes out, once again insisting that it was a little girl she had played with.

My friend, practically with tears in her eyes, wondered if she had done the right thing by telling her kids about this folly, or if she should have lied to her own children to protect them.

Her child is still freaked out.

This to me illustrates how these social engineering experiments are meant to destroy children-directly and indirectly. The impact is not just on the children directly involved with a particularly unstable parent or teacher, but much wider and much more devastating.

What will be the tipping point?

I have no idea.

Glad some good guys are stepping up for Lt. Col Matthew Dooley.

What I understand from this is that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff thinks that it is against American values to learn about America's enemies. Fabulous.

Why Can't Americans Make Their Own Lunches?

I've been following the obesity story in the US for some time. I love America-but the entire country is full of way too many fat people. Make that obese people. Actually, make that beluga whale sized people.

I've told the story before that on one trip to Florida with my (then) family of four, we went to a restaurant and ordered one breakfast for the entire family. It was astounding. The single person's breakfast came with coffee, juice and milk, toast, two eggs and pancakes. There might have even been cereal or a muffin with it. Anyway, all four of us could not finish the one breakfast.

Remarkably, the issue of obesity versus fit and healthy is really a class issue in the United States now. Lower class people are fatter and more inactive, and yes-it's because they eat crap all the time-simply massive amounts of crap. The people who are really fat aren't exactly cooking regular, healthy meals. They aren't shopping for veggies (even the cheap ones-seriously, a head of cabbage is about a dollar). They are porking down the fast food, the soda, the candy and sitting on their rumps for most of the day.



And PLEASE do not give me the thyroid problem lecture. Been there, done that-thyroid whiners have to get over it. I'm also not interested in the "genetic" excuse. ZZZZZZZZZ.

The thing I really am wondering about is why on earth Americans need cafeteria lunches in school at all? 

Is it some kind of American tradition that I don't know about? Does every school have to offer lunch to schoolchildren? Is it against the law not to have full meals available at public schools?

Kathy sent me this awesome audio clip of Mark Levin going completely ballistic on this issue.

When I went to public school we brought our own lunches. In a lunchbox or brown bag.

When I got to (public) high school, we did the same thing. Our cafeteria had the most disgusting food on the planet-the only things that were moderately edible were the cookies. Sometimes we went out, but most of the time we sat in the caf with our home-made lunches.

A lunch program at a public school means that the government is de facto more involved in your child's health than you are-in nutritional terms.(Ditto of course for breakfast programs.)

"We know it is important that students get the calories and nutrition they need to stay alert and energized through the day, and schools are doing a number of things to make sure this happens," wrote Dr. Janey Thornton, USDA's deputy under secretary for food, nutrition and consumer services.

What kind of first world country needs a "deputy under secretary for food, nutrition and consumer services". America has willingly surrendered to the nanny state Lunch Gestapo.

Why is that the default setting in America?

People are complaining now about the new regulations.

But if meals at a public school are a mandatory part of the day, then American parents have already acquiesced their children's nutritional health to  bunch of bureaucratic morons who are eager for a bigger slice of their lives as well.

Are Americans that helpless, and that befuddled so as not to be able to pack a lunch for their kids?

(Not sure if I want the answer to that question...)

There should be no lunches in public schools.

The fight should not be about WHAT they are serving at your schools.

The fight should be about NOT having the government involved with something as important as what your children are conditioned to eat.

The fight, my friends, should be to get the government the hell out of your lunchboxes.
