The real war on women is in Islamic culture. So what is shocking is that Egyptian women are 'shocked' at this wave of assault, or that anyone is surprised by them.
I must say though that the Egyptian misogynists have a particularly sadistic, sharia based approach to rape victims. They certainly don't believe that the women are victims at all. They feel that the attacks were deserved-that sexual assault is the natural consequence of woman not being at home, supervised by her men folk.
Still, this type of thing is upsetting even for a conservative, neo-Con, Zionist Jew meanie like me.
An Egyptian rape victim reports the following to NPR:
"Afterward, she was taken to the police station, where the traumatized woman demanded her attackers be punished, Wassef says.
"She was presented to a doctor who wanted to [carry out] a virginity test in the police station itself," he says. "That led this young woman to completely break down in tears."
