OMG Love This Idea: Latte Love in Downtown New York

Loooooooove this.

I talk to strangers a lot-mostly with success, but I often fall FLAT on my face. The joke fails, the person is severely lacking the "kibbitz" gene and whatnot.

So, informal survey here-how many of you talk to strangers?

I always compliment strangers on things that look good, nice things they do, etc..I ask women wearing fashionable outfits or pieces where they bought them.

A few months ago, I was on the subway and I saw a woman a little older than me wearing a fantastic grey outfit and a cute grey fedora. Her boots were fabulous. I told her that I loved EVERYTHING-the whole outfit and she was so happy. Now, I think she knew she was COMPLETELY ROCKING the outfit, but it is still good to hear it externally confirmed!

I told her that she rocked the grey, and that even though people say grey, especially dark grey is the new black, that clearly ONLY BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK.

Ladies-am I right, or am I right?

Last month, I had a similar experience.

A very enthusiastic woman (about 60, thick Caribbean accent, nothing sexual about it) came up to me on the subway and stopped me to tell me that I looked like a goddess. So I started laughing and said that was very sweet. Clearly-I am not a goddess, but I have a necklace that looks like a Greek goddess necklace, and now twice, when wearing that necklace, two separate women, in two separate cities have said that I looked like a goddess. It made me laugh though because my lineage is pretty damned far from Greek. LOL!

However, anyone out there who is blonde or fair, should consider MAC's "So Chaud" lipstick, or "Lady Danger". JUST SAYIN!!!

ANYWAY- I digress, so here's the thing.

Is it OK for a woman to compliment men wearing great outfits or awesome pieces just for the sake of the compliment without them thinking you are some crazy, freaky prowling middle aged cougar Jew-mom or something of that nature?!? Like really if you just like what they are wearing, or that they have a look.

Seriously, I wish I was a modelling scout sometimes because I just see the most crazy, interesting people around town. And I love hearing their stories.

But that's my question-how are compliments from total strangers considered from the opposite sex?

I suppose it depends on delivery and context-but I have often self-censored because I am not sure how it would go!

I need to find a way to MONETIZE SCHMOOZING.
