UPDATE:
A reader writes in to let me know that the violin is the subject of a longer, more extensive documentary and that the story is much more interesting and complex than the article that I linked to. It's a short doc from Israel, with subtitles, so I'm adding it into the post.
It's also cool because I have been to Chestakova-my family is from that area. Felt very much 'at home' there which was TOTALLY weird and freaky.
