Actually, I was listening to the John Oakley show this morning and he had on his two legal experts.
I was dumbfounded to find myself in complete agreement with Lawrence Ben-Eliezer and completely appalled by the position taken by Lorne Honickman on free speech. Honickman is usually pretty sensible, but he is completely and totally wrong on the free speech issue. Completely wrong-he thought that the Supreme Court did a fine job with its recent decision (idiotic) and that Canadians agree that we need limits on free speech. Need! He talked about libel laws, which are also dated and largely ineffective.
I will post the audio when it is posted on Oakley's web site.
I so rarely agree with Mr. Ben-Eliezer's positions, but he has it exactly right on free speech.
Because as Mark Steyn has put it, free speech is not a left-right issue, it's a free/non-free issue.
That's what makes it even more horrifying that someone as smart as Mr. Honickman doesn't get it.
And please-spare me the 'yelling fire in a crowded theatre' crap.
I'm not inclined to digest platitudes from a dumbass, eugenist moron.
