Hey Florida-Buy Your Tickets to Mark Steyn Live and Watch Him Make Out With Blonde Danish Politicians
Now there's a live show you don't want to miss!!
I've seen Mark Steyn live several times, and I highly, highly recommend it, but dammit, I don't remember that part of the show?!?!
Did I blink and miss it?
Devastating!
But seriously, that was just one of themoderately arousing entertaining notions from Mark Steyn's weekly spot on the Hugh Hewitt show.
I like to read the transcripts because there are always a few piercing nuggets that inevitably turn into fabulous columns, and I think that some of Steyn's best ideas flow really freely in radio conversation-which is why Steyn is amazing on Rush Limbaugh.
Normally, saying someone has a face for radio is sort of like talking about the girl you want to fix up, and the guy says "what does she look like" and the matchmaker says OH SHE HAS THE GREATEST PERSONALITY. It's not really a compliment. Like, really, really not.
Meaning, when they say "she has a great personality" that means HEAD FOR THE HILLS IT'S A FAT CHICK.
But I digress.
When I say Mark Steyn has a personality for radio, I mean it as a huuuuuuuge compliment.
Radio is a strange beast. You have to be comfortable talking to someone as if they are your good friend, no matter what you think about them and no matter how large the audience. I love radio, but like I say-it's a very strange beast. Radio is still cool because it makes you use your imagination. It lets you think instead of having images dictated to your brain. Radio is more cerebral than television.
(Note: this is why talk radio for liberals fails epically. It's an oxymoron, like "jumbo shrimp", like The Great Synagogue of Mecca, if you get my drift...)
From this week's appearance, these bits were particularly astute.
In my view: January may well be Death Month for the American Democratic party.
It will certainly mean death for a lot of Americans and I cannot understand why they are behaving so sheepishly about it. And frankly, I never thought I would say "gee, I'm glad I'm in Canada" when it comes to (our socialized) healthcare as opposed to the American health care system.
As per Steyn: "large numbers of people who think they’ve enrolled with Obamacare in fact have yet to cut their first check for their new insurance plans, and will be going to the pharmacy, or God forbid, the emergency room around January 5th, 6th, 7th, and discovering that in fact although they thought they were insured, they’re not insured. And shortly after that, if things go really badly, we’re going to reading about the first deaths of people who thought they were covered by Obamacare but turn out not to have insurance at all."
We're already reading stories about people with critical illnesses, or chronic illnesses or sick children with cancer who now have no medical insurance.
America yawns.
Steyn on Uncle Jong Un in Korea being Saddamzied (HAHAHAHHAA SEE WHAT I DID THERE??):
He's talking about North Korea, but sounds sort of eerily reminiscent of America to me.
Steyn: "in these hereditary dictatorships, there’s an awful lot of bloodletting that attends the change of power in those places."
ObamaCare will result in many, many preventable American deaths.
The American left is very fond of totalitarianism and hereditary power.
It's a bloody awful powder keg mix for a formerly great republic and beacon of freedom.

Heartache: Even the New York Times Calls Obama's Media Image Control 'Orwellian'
Read the whole thing.
It's probably the most sensible thing I've ever read in The New York Times.
Like EVER. EVAH EVAH EVAH!
"Manifestly undemocratic, in contrast, is the way Mr. Obama’s administration — in hypocritical defiance of the principles of openness and transparency he campaigned on — has systematically tried to bypass the media by releasing a sanitized visual record of his activities through official photographs and videos, at the expense of independent journalistic access."

"The official photographs the White House hands out are but visual news
releases. Taken by government employees (mostly former
photojournalists), they are well composed, compelling and even intimate
glimpses of presidential life. They also show the president in the best
possible light, as you’d expect from an administration highly conscious
of the power of the image at a time of instant sharing of photos and
videos"
"By no stretch of the imagination are these images journalism. Rather,
they propagate an idealized portrayal of events on Pennsylvania Avenue."
"If you take this practice to its logical conclusion, why have news
conferences? Why give reporters any access to the White House? It would
be easier to just have a daily statement from the president (like his recorded weekly video address) and call it a day. Repressive governments do this all the time."

The Christmas Spirit
I'm one of those Jews who loves Christmas.
By that I don't mean Christmas envy, or that I'm converting or anything like that.
OK, so I love Christmas music and have a little tree envy but that's really it.
I ike the spirit of Christmas, which I take to mean the goodness of mankind and by now you know I'm not one of those hopey-dopey-changey people who thinks all humans are basically good, because I don't. I think that most humans are pretty regular and often rotten.
HOWEVER, I am a people collector.
You know some people collect stamps and tea cups and all kinds of other useless crap that they can't take with 'em.
I collect people, and knowledge and anecdotes and stories and hopefully, some wisdom. And then I like to share.
I like to share my people. I like to put people together who need each other, who want to do good things for one another. Who are motivated by G-dliness, and by the love and respect that they have for the sanctity of human life.
So I want to tell you a true story.
A real human story. Pretty much in real time.
And if it inspires you, maybe you'll take that energy and do something good for someone else, because I gotta tell you-it's contagious. Goodness and good deeds are contagious. Aren't we so lucky?
So there are a bunch of people that hung out at a formerly conservative blog that nobody hangs out at anymore. The web site founder was from California.
Does the name matter? Not really.
A bunch of us became internet friends (I've met many of them in person in North America and Israel) and a bunch of us here in Toronto became real life friends. In fact, most of my closest friends today are people that I met through the internet-blogs and web sites, writers and others, etc..
Then that blog blew up and a bunch of refugees hung out at another blog-the founder of that blog is in rural Connecticut. Still a number of us kept in touch through the years. Beautiful G-d fearing people abounded.
During this time, I also became acquainted with parents and siblings all over the world who have the same rare, genetic syndrome as my son.
Well, one of these little guys from Ohio is really sick right now.
He has cancer, it's really terrifying. Thank G-d he is getting excellent care at an excellent children's hospital. He had a long surgery to remove a malignant mass, and he did really well. Bless the healers.
Mom doesn't want to leave the room, and for sure not the hospital. So, they have a guest assistance program where you can buy meals for parents who are staying with their kids. My Dad (waves-love you, Dad) bought a bunch of meals-at $6 a pop, in my view, they are the best most blessed and righteous meals he has purchased this year.
Now this little guy has to have other treatments, among them radiation and chemotherapy and he's going to lose his beautiful, thick head of hair. So his mom was thinking out loud about hats on Facebook.
I put out a call on Facebook to see if any of my friends knit, to make a hat for him.
A friend from the blog world reminded me about another blog friend who is an expert sewer and knitter. It had been years, but I sent her an e-mail and she immediately said count me in. She's in Seattle.
So because of this beautiful internet, a Jewish grandfather from Toronto buys an Ohio mom a few meals to make her life easier while her child is in hospital. A blog friend from North Carolina who I have never met in person, reminds me that another blog friend in Seattle who I have never met knits and sews. And we, as friends were brought together by a G-d fearing, firebrand Jewish lady from Connecticut who I've never met in person either.
And the knitted hats for the boy with cancer are on their way to Ohio and I got to be the matchmaker, to share in these good deeds-and all I had to do was type away at my computer and put the right people together.
How lucky.
What a blessing.
I really don't have the words right now to express exactly how grateful I am to be a part of such goodness.
So I guess among the many lessons here are if you have to collect something, collect good people.
Ask for things that other people need.
Put people together.
Watch good things grow.
Be grateful, be blessed.
In the Christmas spirit (hat tip: Blazing Cat Fur) here's a little girl signing Christmas and Chanukah songs to her parents.
HEY, she would have made a much better sign language translator for the Mandela funeral.

Must Read: Douglas Murray and Ann Coulter
Both pieces touch masterfully on who you ought to believe, your political and media elites or our own lying eyes??
(My recommendation: your hatey, hateful, lying eyes...)
Absolutely excellent stuff from Douglas Murray.
Don't censor yourself.
Seriously, what's the very worst that can happen? Why stifle every joke, comment or giggle?
Live a little.
"We must face up to it. The Western democracies have a great and serious problem which appears only to be growing: the general public are developing views highly questionable to those in positions of power. Larger and larger swaths of people, when asked their opinion of certain matters, keep coming back with the wrong opinion. Whether it is opposition to the EU in Europe, or to Obamacare in the U.S., or to a hopeless deal with Iran to keep it from producing nuclear weapons, something, surely, must be done about this!"
Read it all. Similar themes and utter brilliance emanating from Ann Coulter who writes this beauty "Words With Fiends".
I'm in love with it, frankly.
The whole thing is awesome, but I'm literally in love with the ending. Her conclusion is spot on.
"Accustomed to playing the role of Soviet commissar censoring the news when it comes to black violence, the Non-Fox Media are in a panic now that the alternative media can post videos of young black males punching out random strangers."
"As a result, liberals are denying the "Knockout Game" exists by refusing to understand the meaning of basic words, such as "game" and "trend."
It's a masterpiece. You must read the whole thing.

DIsgusting: Atlanta Theives Steal Medicine and Communication Device From Autistic, Epileptic Little Girl
Heartbreaking.
They held a gun to her head.
Savages.
I hope this Mom takes the story more public. I'm sure people would step up for a new communication device for the little girl. In addition to the trauma of assault, stealing medication from an epileptic kid and thereby endangering her life, taking away her voice is utterly despicable.

New York Boy, 6, Asks Santa For Prosthetic Arm For Christmas
You know, this kid's insurance company just made the most idiotic, costly decision and they will regret it if the name of the company goes public.
Not medically necessary to have an arm?
Seriously who is the genius who signed off on the "NO ARM FOR YOU, KID" order at that company?
That company should be named and shamed.
Looks like they have already hit their goal, G-d bless regular, generous Americans.

Smart Jew Daniel Greenfield: The UK Confronts Islamism (Must Read)
Odd that it takes an American Yid to articulate what cannot and will not be said clearly in the UK.
The whole article is chilling.
Greenfield is a truth-teller, a very dangerous profession nowadays.
He says:
Then this:
The whole article is chilling.
Greenfield is a truth-teller, a very dangerous profession nowadays.
He says:
"Apologists can argue that Marxism distorts Marx and that Islamism distorts Islam, but those remain unconvincing defenses. Implementing a set of ideas always distorts them, but realizing ideas is the only truly objective way to assess their merit by seeing their consequences."
"What the report is clumsily getting at is the idea that Islam is legitimate in private practice, but not in public imposition. It’s Islam when a Muslim goes to a mosque or avoids alcohol, but Islamism when he harasses barflies or chops off heads under the dictates of Islamic law. Unfortunately this distinction has no meaning in Islam which was never rewired to function as a private religion in a secular state."
Then this:
"America dealt with the clash between religion and tolerance by separating church and state allowing churches to retain their full doctrine while secularizing the machinery of the state. Europe dealt with it by secularizing and liberalizing national churches to such a degree that they no longer had any religious content that anyone could object to."
"Islam was absent from Europe when this rewiring took place. Unlike its Christian and Jewish antagonists, it hasn’t been liberalized or secularized. And it insists on being a public religion because theocracy is what it was built to do. Islam was not the religion of the oppressed. It was the religion of the oppressors. It equates morality with authority. If it doesn’t control the public square, then it has no function."

Lawsuit: Body of U.S Marine Sent Home Without His Own Heart
This is so disturbing.
A young marine, who committed suicide while on duty, was subjected to an unauthorized autopsy. His body was returned to his parents without a heart. Another heart was sent subsequently-and DNA tests proved it was not their son's.
When Americans give their souls, bodies and hearts to their country and their country returns a body without a heart it is a tragic and horrendous point in history indeed.
Americans place their hands on their hearts when they say their Pledge of Allegiance.
One can only shudder to think at how little American politicians care about this outrage, as per Hilary Clinton-'what difference does it make'?
The other thing that is so disturbing is that a young man, a mere 21 years old, could have been so distraught by a romantic problem that he thought suicide was the only answer.
Parents need to instil in their children enough confidence (not "self-esteem") and help them develop a thick enough skin to withstand some heartache-early on in life. The earlier the better.
A break up should never lead to suicide. There have been so many stories lately of suicides due to on-line "bullying" and false accusations. With parenthood comes great responsibility. While parents cannot possibly monitor all on-line activities, in my view, they have a duty to talk to kids about the old 'sticks and stones' adage.
Who cares what people say?
It matters what people do.
We live in a society that has "invested" so much time and effort into building "self-esteem". Instead of building self-worth, and earned, legitimate self-confidence, we have young people who have "self-esteem" that is so fragile that a few insults, and a few punches or insults lobbed by bullies throw them so much off their game, and into such emotional and psychological tumult that they consider suicide.
This is another social justice experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong.
Shame on all the enablers.

Absolutely hysterical.
"I guess somebody at the CBS news department typed in music of Africa when searching for bumper music for the Morning Show teaser on their Mandela coverage. They got Toto’s insipid 80′s ballad Africa about a white dude who has to choose between relief work in Africa and some hot chick he wants to bang"

Oregon Signs Up 44 People For ObamaCare at A Cost of $300 Million
Hmm. What an outstanding deal.
What fabulous value.
Is that what the gold plan is?
Platinum? Diamond encrusted?
What is so hard about math for liberals?
$300 million ÷ 44 = TOTALLY STUPID AND WASTEFUL UNICORN OBAMANOMICS

Bloomberg: The Micro Control Queen of NYC Wants to Force Flu Shots on Kids
A parting nanny-state action from Queen Nanny himself.
Nanny-statists such as Bloomberg clearly feel that there is no area of the life of the populace that is exempt from their pet-project meddling.

I rather like the cut of his jib!
Seriously-what's not to like?
Zionist, warrior, smart, history geek, stellar academic credentials. Good stuff.
Hmm....still reading...re-framing questions, this is an excellent strategy. Make people think-like this also.
Took a peek at their web site.
Some good content, some excellent people (love Moshe Arens for example) but the web site is really, really ugly and not very impressive. It needs a major facelift, it looks really dated. The Hebrew site is not any better.
Hello Institute for Zionist Strategies?
There are lots of Zionists out there, with a lot of energy and contacts.
Your site, and therefore-your mission is really not "out there".
Seriously, re-think your web presence! Twitter is your friend!
You're welcome.

Why Do American Educators Hate Children And Torment Them?
Further to Mark Steyn's Corner post on the men who should never be allowed near children, another disgusting episode in America.
Behold: A six year old boy, accused of "sexual harassment" in Colorado, for kissing the cheek of a fellow school mate-SUSPENDED from school.
Why are parents allowing their children any contact with these mental cases?
Pull your kids out-home school them and sue the school boards for allowing clearly mentally disturbed adults near your children.
You know, if he had kissed a boy, they would probably be waving the rainbow flag around and celebrating sexual diversity.
America, I love you but your public schools are full of lunatics.
Parents-why are you letting mentally ill adults destroy your children?
Parents need to stand up to the lunacy and bullying.
Parents need to stand up to the systemic and epidemic p*ssification of boys.
Just because someone is called an "educator" that doesn't mean he or she is mentally sound.

President Obama Makes Strange Bed Fellows Out of Saudi Arabia and Israel
Read this whole essay.
I thought the article about the Jew, married to the Israeli getting the "Arab Nobel Prize" was actually pretty interesting. It is certainly reasonable to say that cancer is a mutal enemy of both peoples. Cancer knows no nationality, and is an indiscriminate killer. Disease, of course, is the 'great' equalizer of humans, disease 'celebrates' all diversity.
But was the Jew in the Happy Kingdom a hint to Obama? This was the first I heard of the visit, so I wonder.
The Saudis do not love Jews. But they hate Iran and the Shia with almost as much passion as they hate Jews.
We live in strange, dangerous times.

Steyn: About That Imaginary Bow and Arrow "Weapon", "Shot" By A Schoolboy
Mark Steyn correctly assesses that "educators" who torment little boys should be kept very far away from all children.
Best comment:
"This has nothing to do with weapons or safety. When these jerks punish kids for imaginary bows and arrows or a pop tarts chewed into the shape of a gun, what they are really punishing is aggressive thoughts. The aim is to browbeat the children into passive little clients of the state who can be bent to the needs of the state with the state never needing to fear resistance."
Actually, I think it is also to show parents that the school and the state own their children ("co-parents") and that parents have no right to raise their boys the way that boys have always been raised. This kind of calculated bullying uses innocent children as a proxy to intimidate the parents as well.
They want parents to just give up and let the schools do whatever they please.
That principal should be watched very carefully.
My special needs son was subjected to what I would characterize as moderately abusive behaviour at a public school in my area a number of years ago. It was our first attempt at having him in the public school system and it was an epic disaster. (Since then, we have had an outstanding experience at his current school, absolutely inspiring and wonderful...)
We promptly pulled him out of the school where the egregious episode happened because the principal defended the teacher and the assistants.
It was the only time that I was reduced to tears because of an incident at school in my son's entire life. I put it all in writing-it was all ignored and buried. But we pulled him out.
If more people fought back, or created zero enrolment at schools where the administrators have zero brains, THEY would be on the defensive.
Like Kate MacMillan of Small Dead Animals says: not showing up to riot is a failed conservative policy.
Not showing up to riot is a failed parental policy as well.
These episodes are disgusting and abusive. Parents who are passive are part of the problem as well.

Why Is Obama Courting Hizballah?
Good question.
Fair question.
"The desire for dialogue with Hezbollah seems to be the latest manifestation of the Obama’s administration’s odd ambition to act against allies and appease obvious and declared enemies in the Middle East. It will not end well."
"Declared enemies" is the operative phrase. Obama may not consider Hizballah and Iran enemies. Just saying....

Great find by Kate.
You know what an even cheaper, more democratic "solution" is to "cyberbullying"?
How about shut of your damned computer.
If you have kids, shut off their damned computers.
Unplug, unhook, disconnect.
Problem solved!
You know for all the brainwashing that educators have done for years about "self-esteem", you would think that kids might have enough "self-esteem" to know that one should not commit suicide because of something that someone says on the Internet.
Where are the parents?
Another wonderful success of the social engineering in lieu of actual education (or parenting) program of the left.

American Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Used Mentally Disabled People to Run Their "Stings"
Where is the moral compass of America?
This is a disgusting story. This is abuse of disabled people.
Instead of protecting the most vulnerable of society, the very forces entrusted with maintaining public security and order are abusing people with diminished mental capacity.
For shame.
Of course no heads will roll, and nobody will be held accountable.
The people in charge of this disgusting farce will no doubt get promoted.
Woe unto anyone who tried to pull something like this with my mentally disabled kid.
I mean it: WOE UNTO ANYONE even thinking about him the wrong way.
This is a disgraceful story. If anyone in that organization had any honour whatsoever, they would resign and hang their head in shame.
But you cannot shame the shameless.

Must Read: ObamaCare, Where the Liberal Dream Crashes and Burns
This is a fine piece by Margaret Wente at the Globe & Mail.
The whole essay is excellent, you have to read the whole thing.
"Mr. Obama is in a tough spot. It’s not just that he looks incompetent – it’s that he looks deceitful. He told people they could keep their plans, their doctors and their hospitals, and that their insurance payments wouldn’t go up. That turns out not to be true for a lot of people, who feel duped. If they’d known what Obamacare would really mean, they wouldn’t have supported it. And the worst isn’t over."
"But Obamacare is much more than a test of a presidency. It’s a test of whether big government can solve big problems. And so far, the answer is very bad for the entire liberal enterprise."
"As venerable left-leaning pundit Thomas Edsall wrote in The New York Times, “Cumulatively, recent developments surrounding the rollout of Obamacare strengthen the most damaging conservative portrayals of liberalism and of big government – that on one hand government is too much a part of our lives, too invasive, too big, too scary, too regulatory, too in your face, and on the other hand it is incompetent, bureaucratic and expropriatory.”
"This is a cautionary tale for Canada, where progressive politicians are fond of big ideas that will fix (fill in social problem here). It should resonate throughout Ontario, where the Liberal government’s two signature policies – to transform energy and early education – have turned into expensive failures. It should be studied very carefully by the two progressive federal parties, who may find that voters are increasingly skeptical of government promises to cure whatever ails us."
"The truth is that no matter how many smart people are in charge, governments can’t run things very well."

Free Speech Under Assault at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
This is pretty bad.
The "cure" for "hate speech" is better speech, freer speech and more convincing speech.
Shutting down free speech is totalitarian and disgusting-especially on a Western university campus.

Mark Steyn, Non-Jew With Jewish Sounding Name Celebrates Christmas Music Written By Jews
"I'll Be Home For Christmas..."
JEW CAN PLAN ON MEEEEEEEEE.
I love Christmas music.
PS: Buy Mark Steyn's Christmas album or the terrorists will have won.
(Nothing annoys the terrorists more than Christmas songs sung by a philo-semitic gentile, particularly when endorsed by obnoxious infidel Jewish mothers.)

President Obama Remembers Pearl Harbor (Not)
I'd be laughing if I wasn't crying.
The President Obama method for "remembering" historical events that he had nothing to do with follows a relatively simple formula.
Take picture of Obama. Insert item or insert Obama at location that was meaningful to actual historical figure who actually did something that affected history. Have official Stalin-style White House photographer take pictures at taxpayer's expense. Tweet it out.
Voila!

iPads "Speak" For Non-Verbal Kids
Just because a child can't speak doesn't mean he or she has nothing to say.
Thank G-d for this technology.
My son used it to tell me he loves Mommy. He can't speak with words, but he has something to say.

Obama's War Against the Jews

Lying Former Marine Gave Exactly Zero Dollars to Wounded Warriors
This is not just a story about lying and a faux hate crime.
It also shows that these types have no ability to see into the future.
No concept of probabilities.
Even toddlers understand "contingencies".
("No, Johnny, eat your apple first AND THEN you can have a candy.")
They want instant gratification. NOW NOW NOW. There is no thought to consequences and comparing the thrill of the instant with long-term effects.
So, this woman made a quick $2000 off of her hoax from a bunch of well-meaning suckers, but it is nowknown all over the world that she is a lying, liar.
It's safe to assume that she was not able or willing to give a single thought as to what a terrible return on investment that would be IF she got caught.

America: Full of Dumbass "Educators"-10 Year Old Boy Threated With Expulsion for Playing With Imaginary Bow and Arrow
America, I love you but you need to raze your public education system to the ground and start over again.
"FAWN GROVE, Pa.— The Rutherford Institute has come to the defense of a 10-year-old boy who was suspended under a school zero tolerance policy for shooting an imaginary “arrow” at a fellow classmate, using nothing more than his hands and his imagination. Johnny Jones, a fifth grader at South Eastern Middle School, was suspended for a day and threatened with expulsion under the school’s weapons policy after playfully using his hands to draw the bowstrings on a pretend “bow” and “shoot” an arrow at a classmate who had held his folder like an imaginary gun and “shot” at Johnny."
"In coming to Jones’ defense, Rutherford Institute attorneys have asked Rona Kaufmann, Superintendent of the South Eastern School District in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, to rescind the suspension and remove all references to the incident from Jones’ permanent school record."
"Zero tolerance" is really soooooper seeeeekrit liberal code for "zero brains" and "zero common sense".

WSJ: The Race to Preserve the Voices of the Holocaust
It is understandable to have a sincere concern about preserving the voices and the stories of the Holocaust.
I think we have to remember though, that people who wish to remember, will.
There is a lot of documentation, there are photos and videos, and much of it has been digitized. People who choose to ignore or forget history will do so despite our best efforts to educate them and elucidate the issues.
There are countless stories in our human history that we remember to this day, the figures and events live in our hearts and minds if we want them there.
Long after individual people are gone, their stories and words and spirits live on.
Those who wish to remember always will.

Daniel Greenfield: Mandela's Death Gives Western Liberals Permission to Stop "Caring" About South Africa UPDATED
Absolutely.
South Africa is a mess. A dangerous mess where the value of human life is minimal.
He notes:
Jews especially should get out while they can, while they are still alive.

South Africa is a mess. A dangerous mess where the value of human life is minimal.
He notes:
"Everyone knows the history of South Africa and no one knows it. The dynamics of a troubled past that were reduced to a happy ending built around one man are still playing out in South Africa. Even as the mourning for Mandela goes on, one child is raped every three minutes in South Africa and three children are murdered every day. If there is anything that the world ought to mourn, not only today, but every day, it is a horrifying reality in which a South African woman is more likely to be raped than to learn to read, a quarter of the men admit to having raped and men with AIDS believe that they can find a cure by raping a baby. Troubling facts like these defy the easy inspiration of the happy ending. They remind us that history does not stop the way that a film script does. There is no moment when the crowd cheers, the camera pans up and the audience is free to leave the theater and look no further because the story has ended."
There is no happy ending. There will be no happy ending.

What could possibly be wrong with that?

Steyn: Those Who Can't, Govern
Mark Steyn has a magnificent essay up today.
"Those Who Can't, Govern."
It's from his National Review "Happy Warrior" column.
Before I get into my own thoughts about the column, I have to say being a, or "the" preeminent "Happy Warrior" of the entire Western world is a very, very tough gig.
The happy part-well, that's very hard work.
Because being happy is pretty f&cking serious work.
It's a pretty f&cking serious choice to make on a daily basis.
Yeah, that's right, I said choice.
You know why?
Because life throws big, huge curve balls at you all the time. Crappy things. Sad things.
I won't bother listing all the things that my family and my friends are dealing with right now. If you heard the list, you'd be pretty damned happy that you have only YOUR stuff to deal with.
It's just so bloody easy to moan and ring one's hands about how bad things are. It's much harder to put on your happy face and just get to it. Not just for yourself, but for the people around you.
Being happy is a big responsibility and an enormous gift to give to the people around you. The people you love. It's a way of showing your gratitude for your life. When you are happy, you show your thanks to G-d for each day.
Churchill fought his "black dogs" all the time.
Those of us who have been there, in the depths, in the don't want to get out of pajamas, don't want to wash, dark days know what it means. You have to double down and fight it even harder.
The warrior part? Also exhausting. I'm getting exhausted just thinking about it.
Why?
Because so few want to lead and to fight.
Those who do are constantly being asked for more-more leadership, more fight, more inspiration.
Sometimes, there is no more. Even the most ferocious warriors need respite time.
Thus, one must consider the wise words of the Happy Warrior with due respect. Because we have an uphill battle on our hands.
This is what it's about:
"For the last half-century, Obama has simply had to be. Just being Obama was enough to waft him onwards and upwards: He was the Harvard Law Review president who never published a word, the community organizer who never organized a thing, the state legislator who voted present. And then one day came the day when it wasn't enough simply to be. For the first time in his life, he had to do. And it turns out he can't."
"Politics, the late Christopher Hitchens used to say, is show business for ugly people. But it's also ugly business for show people."
! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
And then:
"There are lessons here beyond the abysmal failure of one misconceived government program, lessons about what our esteemed (if not terminally self-esteemed) elites value as "smart," and about the perils of rule by a poseur technocracy. As for Obama, he's not Jay-Z, nor even Justin Bieber: He can't sing, or dance, or create a government bureaucracy that functions any more efficiently than a Soviet supermarket. He broke the lifelong rule that had served him so well — "Don't just do something. Stand there" — and for the first time in his life did something, terribly. It will bear his name forever."
These are outstanding observations about the narcissistic and pathetic, reckless incompetent who is sitting in the Oval Office right now wrecking the American Republic and trashing its Constitution.
The liar and fraud.
All the lies are true.
And shame on all the enablers who preferred their own self-soothing, masturbatory narratives about the empty suit rather than deal with reality.

Derek Thompson: The Secret Life of Grief
This is one of the most beautiful essays I have read all year, in a long time.
Some essays make me think, make me mad or make me want to act.
This one makes me want to give the author and my family a really big hug.
It's just outstanding.
Some of his observations are breathtaking in their honesty and simplicity. I see in this family a love of life, real humanity and love.
I can't say anymore about it. Read the whole thing. You'll be so glad you did, and so glad he shared this with you.

Bruce Bawer: The Heretic Versus The Entire Dutch Academy
This is totally delicious.
See, this is what happens first of all when people, you know, READ BOOKS.
And this is what happens when people choose not to shuffle along like sheep, nodding in agreement with boring, contrived and politically correct stupidity and intoxicating platitudes.
"Meet Yernaz Ramautarsing. Born in the former Dutch colony of Surinam in 1987, he was raised in Amsterdam – and grew up into a political junkie and a solid left-winger. “I was terribly left-wing,” he told me the other day. “Intoxicated by the Cuban Revolution. I always said I wanted to be president of Surinam.”
"Last week was a big one for Yernaz and his Facebook page. After De Volkskrant ran a piece about it on Thursday, Yernaz was invited to appear that evening on a popular national TV discussion program. He ended up making a fool out of a fellow guest, legendary Dutch entertainer Freek de Jonge – a smug lefty of a certain age who is used to having his opinions applauded, not challenged. (Think Barbra Streisand.) De Jonge, who oozed confidence at the outset of the exchange, plainly thought he could dismiss Yernaz with a couple of snotty putdowns; instead, he ended up being handily dispatched by the young upstart. Indeed, De Jonge revealed himself – or, rather, Yernaz revealed De Jonge – to be one of those proudly outspoken lockstep leftists who are so accustomed to being agreed with that, when actually challenged, they prove utterly incapable of defending their views."
"Anyway, it was a remarkable spectacle – David slaying Goliath. Overnight, Yernaz became a hero to a whole big swath of politically incorrect Dutchmen."
One person can make a difference.
Individuals always have.
The responsibility is great-not everyone is up for the challenge. It's exhausting.
But it is certainly worth it.
Don't get discouraged!
You know who you are!
Read the whole thing!

NYC Councilwoman Explains "Knockout" Assaults: The Problem is Those Rich Joooooooos Or Something
Always the JOOOOOOOS.
Never their own fault or problem. Never their own crappy choices or behaviour. Never their fault.
There is a BIG PROBLEM brewing in New York City.
And it's going to get worse. It's going to get a lot worse, and there will a lot more scapegoating of Jews by African Americans.
So while the epidemic of single parenthood kills black families that survive the incessant abortion of black and minority babies, while the gangs continue to deal and take drugs and kill and assault-yes, just continue to blame the Jews.
But know this: the Jews will continue to thrive and keep our families together despite it all. We will raise our kids Jewish and we will be watching out for anyone who tries to hurt us.
Last night at a family Chanukah dinner I was chatting with one of the guests. A Scottish Jew as it happens. A real renaissance guy and a tough guy. He owns ten shotguns and two pistols.
He met a guy at the range a few years ago, and now they are buddies. A German guy. Our guest said to the German guy (who was about the same age)-you know I'm Jewish.
The guy said "no, you're kidding" jokingly. Then he asked, how come you're into shooting?
Our guest said "my mother-in-law was put into a boxcar and sent to Auschwitz".
"I'm not getting in a boxcar."

Daniel Greenfield: Civilization and the Knockout Game
An excellent summary, getting to the real point.
"Civilization is not instinctive. It doesn’t come packaged in our DNA. It doesn’t even come from schools or books. It has to come from the defining human institution; the family."
"Where there is no family, men and women wear the coat of civilization loosely and cast it aside easily. They treat violence and sexuality with the casualness that those outside civilization do. It is the family that civilizes violence and sexuality by endowing it with civilizational meaning. Without it, all that’s left are dark streets, single mothers, male wolf packs and Knockout games."
Related: Kathy Shaidle notes that a black CNN personality was more worried about black hurt feelings than white hurt faces (and bodies, I would add).
Denial is deep.

Official Obama Propaganda Funded by the American Taxpayer
Disgusting.
Pravda and Tass are less contrived and more transparent.
I'm beginning to think Americans deserve the government they have.

The New Scarlett Letter is "R"
I remember reading The Scarlett Letter a long time ago, but it's time for a re-read. For real.
A loyal reader from Australia sent me a piece from The Daily Telegraph that I missed and I promised that I would write about it today.
Behold: School Children as young as 8 told (actually threatened is more apt) that they would be labelled as racist for missing school trip.
I often use "The UK Is Screwed" as the title of some of my posts.
This article epitomizes why I maintain the UK is screwed.
The new Scarlett Letter is "R" for "racist".
This is apparently the worst thing that people think can happen to them, to be called, or labelled a 'racist'.
Are you people completely nuts? I mean it.
If you give a rat's ass about being called anything, then you are pretty much as crazy as the people who are flinging these useless, idiotic accusations around willy-nilly with the hopes that SOMETHING will stick to you.
And for those people who actually do have the balls not to care, or-dare I say-like myself EMBRACE the epithet, the social engineering and your betters in government and the re-education gulag Nazis will FORCE you to wear the label on your chest and on your official paperwork for your entire life, starting in grade school!
This is a very dangerous and sickening article for so many reasons.
British parents were expected to pay for the pleasure of their children being indoctrinated at a mosque, when they should have been-you know-learning at school.
Here are the facts:

British parents were expected to pay for the pleasure of their children being indoctrinated at a mosque, when they should have been-you know-learning at school.
Here are the facts:
"Parents have criticised a school after children as young as eight were told
they would be punished for racism if they did not attend a religious
workshop about Islam."
"Angry mums and dads were sent a letter by Littleton Green Community School, in
Huntingdon, Staffordshire, warning their children would be considered racist
if they did not go on the school trip. The visit to Staffordshire University - for Year 4 and Year 6 pupils - had
been arranged as part of the children's "cultural education" on November 27."
"Headteacher Lynn Small wrote to parents and said if kids did not attend a
"racial discrimination note" would be made on the pupil's records and would
remain there for their school careers."
"On top of that, they were also ordered to pay £5 towards the cost of the trip."
I would have said: over my dead body.
Fortunately, these parents showed some balls.
They pushed back and the smug, moral superiors, from their cushy supine dhimmi offices had to back down.
Everyone needs to push back.
People who don't push back are the problem.
What would you have done?
Quietly paid your 5 quid and carried on?
Would you have not wanted to make a fuss, and just muttered under your breath that you were pissed off?
Or would you have raised a little hell?
Do read the whole article, which includes the school letter at the bottom. It is breathtaking in its arrogance.
I swear, every time I think I have read the most vomit-inducing letter about the Brits and their abject surrender to Islam I see something like this.
Great Britain can only return to greatness if more people act exactly as these upstanding parents have acted.
And that goes for you, too.

Outstanding-David Soloway Asks: Is the Game Lost?
This is absolutely outstanding.
Kudos to PJ Media for being one of the only publications on the planet that would "let" Solway actually publish this.
"We have reached the point at which, even if by some miracle every last Muslim terrorist could be eliminated, the situation would not alter appreciably. For the real onslaught is occurring peacefully, via unstinted Muslim immigration into the West, burgeoning demographics outpacing Western population replacement ratios, infiltration of the civil apparatus including the judiciary, the legal profession, the legacy media, the educational curriculum from top to bottom, the interfaith community, and the various levels of government, municipal, state and national."
He notes that there are those who think we right wingers are wrongly stating the sky is falling.
"In the cheery words of Daniel Pipes, “Radical Islam is the problem; moderate Islam is the solution.” The argument is blinkered and disingenuous, if not downright contrafactual."
EXACTLY because:
"Ultimately, the distinction between “extremists” and “moderates” does not hold up to scrutiny."
"Regrettably, Pipes’ ideal “moderate” is a figment of his imagination, a theoretical chimera, a creature of myth like a unicorn or wyvern or firedrake — in effect, an empty category. But its hollowness remains unperceived since it is a heavily paradigm-laden phenomenon, a collective assumption imposed upon a vacancy."
"In other words, the term “moderate” applied to Muslims is a nebulous placeholder for a concept that resists definition but which appeals to a conciliatory mentality that does not want to look too deeply into a problematic reality. It means everything and nothing. It sheds a warm, narcoleptic glow upon a disturbing issue that should properly invite unsparing inquiry, and it thus enables us to preserve a comfortable sense of faux open-mindedness.
“Moderate” in this usage is a numbing synonym for “good,” “benevolent,” “unoffending,” “peaceable,” etc., while pretending to be a descriptor for a “signified” without observable shape or precise content. Its chief function is to muddy the waters, that is, to close off debate and analysis. It is also an ego-massage for our cultural meliorists and multiculti preachers who preen themselves on their ecumenical bona fides."

Canadian Mayor Pockets $8 Million Meant for Orphans and HIV/AIDS Victims
An audit now shows that a Canadian mayor, right here in Ontario pocketed $8 million dollars that was donated by hard-working Canadians who wanted their hard-earned money to go to orphans and HIV/AIDS sufferers.

President Obama's Alma Mater Offering Course on RuPaul and Drag Queen Performance
What a solid education!
Higher education, home of your moral, intellectual and dancing drag queen superiors.
Details here.
"Reading RuPaul: Camp Culture, Gender Insubordination, and the Politics of Performance," will study the show from a feminist and gay point of view.
The course will also cover the history of drag and U.S. gay culture, as well as a broad range of issues such as transgender identity, HIV/AIDS, bullying and violence, racial identity, gender identity, body size, and LGBT political activism.
Coursework will involve watching episodes of the show and reading RuPaul's recent book, Workin’ It.
Sounds absolutely fascinating!
I am sure that in today's America there is a VERY VERY HIGH DEMAND FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A DEGREE IN RuPaul and DRAG QUEEN STUDIES.
And, now you, too can get an overpriced, mediocre liberal arts "education" a la President Obama, from Occidental College in LA and your very own BA in RuPaul and Drag Queen Studies for the very special, highly competitive price of $240,000!
What could possibly be wrong with that?

Mark Steyn: Surrender in Geneva
In this essay, Mark Steyn takes a look at the obvious surrender of America to Iran that took place in Geneva.
When I first read about the "agreement", I felt sick to my stomach and it will definitely go into my personal file of "where were you when..." moments. This was the moment where Obama's perfidy became so clear and so bright that one would have thought it would be impossible to ignore.
At first, the Democrat supporting Jews were mute.
We didn't hear anything from them. But alas, the mute button was short-lived and uber-wealthy Jewish leftists like Haim Saban-himself a former Israeli are all about backing Hilary Clinton for 2016.
Steyn sums it up thus:
"In Geneva, the participants came to the talks with different goals: The Americans and Europeans wanted an agreement; the Iranians wanted nukes. Each party got what it came for."
"Explaining that their “singular object” was to “ensure that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon,” John Kerry said that “Foreign Minister Zarif emphasized that they don’t intend to do this, and the Supreme Leader has indicated there is a fatwa which forbids them to do this.” “The Supreme Leader” is not Barack Obama but Ayatollah Khamenei. Why is America’s secretary of state dignifying Khamenei as “the Supreme Leader”?"
Why indeed?
"In his own famous remarks upon his return from Munich, Neville Chamberlain referred only to “Herr Hitler.” “Der Führer” means, in effect, “the Supreme Leader,” but, unlike Kerry (and Obama), Chamberlain understood that it would be unseemly for the representative of a free people to confer respectability on such a designation."
We cannot give up the fight, but these are very dangerous times and the waking capitulation of America under Obama, Kerry et al is very frightening. And not "just" for Israel.
Whatever is done to Jews by their enemies is eventually done to others in all places where the infidel walks and dares to breathe and live.
The jihad against individual Jews started with murder by knives and rock and guns. It went on to bombs in garbage bins and backpacks, and then bombs strapped to human beings and filled with ball bearings and other deadly items to increase the carnage.
They started by taking down individual planes, holding people for ransom and killing individuals and then "progressing" to taking down entire buildings in downtown New York City and Washington, D.C. All the great cities of the world have now experienced the jihad.
Jihad that was tested joyfully on Jews has never stayed primarily with Jews, and it has never stayed in Israel-nor will it. And now, with America's blessing the stakes are nuclear.
Steyn rightly notes that "a disinterested observer might easily conclude that the point of the plan seems to be to box in Israel rather than Iran" where "America is containing itself, in hopes of a quiet life".
This will be a very costly error in human life-not just for the Jews, but for the entire world.
The weight of the world is on Binyamin Netanyahu at the moment, and not just the Jewish world.
Remember where you were when America betrayed the Jews and the trail of appeasement that bled from Geneva.

"The time had come to launch a decisive blow to the Jewish community, to render it defenseless so that its “ill-gotten” property could be redistributed as an entitlement to the German “Volk.” The German Jews were ordered to surrender all their weapons, and the police had the records on all who had registered them. Even those who gave up their weapons voluntarily were turned over to the Gestapo."
"This took place in the weeks before what became known as the Night of the Broken Glass, or Kristallnacht, occurred in November 1938. That the Jews were disarmed before it, minimizing any risk of resistance, is the strongest evidence that the pogrom was planned in advance. An incident was needed to justify unleashing the attack."
Lesson of the Holocaust: Jews need to be heavily armed to defend themselves. Thank G-d for Israel and the IDF.

Must Read: Obama Reaches Highest Office in Country Without Having to Achieve Anything
This is an excellent article-read the whole thing.
This line is a killer summary of President Obama:
"He has advanced to the highest position in government without having demonstrated the ability to get results."
That is the current state of affairs in America.
"He is the product, as the Hoover Institution's Peter Berkowitz writes, “of the same progressive version of higher education that simultaneously excises politics from the study of government and public policy while politicizing education."
“This higher education,” Berkowitz continues, “denigrates experience; exalts rational administration; reveres abstract moral reasoning; confidently counts on the mainstream press to play for the progressive political team; accords to words fabulous abilities to remake reality; and believes itself to speak for the people while haughtily despising their way of life.”
"Or to put it more pithily, Obama knows how to use words good. But he doesn’t seem to understand how the world works."
EXAMPLE:
“We’re also discovering,” he said at that press conference, “that insurance is complicated to buy.”

Court Eunuchs Find Their Balls? Media Accuses Dear Leader of Taking Propaganda Lessons From Soviet Pravda
FORWARD, DA!
HOPEYCHANGEY, DA!
I actually think that the English language Pravda is much more readable than the tripe put out by the Obama White House.
Clearly, I'm not the only one who thinks so.
But now-HEARTACHE-even the fawning Obama-bot media is accusing President of having Soviet style control of his image.
Imagine that!
(Of course it does take the British press to properly report on this.)

My Friend Simcha Jacobovici: Archeological Detective Work
A really interesting piece from my buddy Simcha Jacobovici (The Naked Archeologist among other things).
Read the whole thing.
Read the whole thing.
American Nuclear Codes, Easy as 000000000????
Not to be believed.
So glad that America has SUCH CRACK CODE MAKERS.
What could be harder to hack than a code such as 00000000?

UK: Pregnant Woman Has Forced Caesarian and Baby Removed After Social Workers Obtain Court Order
This is absolutely horrifying.
Social workers got a court order to have an Italian guest worker put under a caesarian section and forcibly removed her baby because she had mental illness issues.
If the state can rip your baby out of your womb, what can it not take?

Judenrein Iraq Wants Jewish Artifacts "Back"
Iraq, the country that kicked out all its Jews and turned them into instant refugees wants a massive Iraqi Jewish archive back.
The archive of personal effects and documents was found in a soggy basement compartment of the Saddam Hussein's secret service.
I say: TOUGH SH&T.
Here is a short background article, but the best article I read about this recently was by Joe O'Conner in the National Post. He is simply an outstanding feature writer and this was a haunting, personal tale.
"Like sending back art Nazis looted: Iraqi Jews who fled persecution fight to stop U.S from "returning" "stolen" artifacts to Baghdad.
How about the fact that it was stolen from the Jews?
Their property, possessions, land-everything.
One of my good friends in Israel, a professional photographer, is an Iraqi Jew. There are lots of them in Israel and many are concentrated in the Ramat Gan area. That made it even more bloodily ironic when missiles from Iraq rained down on them in the Gulf War.
She had an idyllic childhood. Her parents were wealthy, her father was a lawyer. They had several servants, and a home with a courtyard fountain in the centre. She tells me of rose water tea being served, of her whole family being together.
One fine day, her entire family was thrown in jail. She was about seven years old at the time. They were imprisoned to give the regime time to loot their house and her parents assets because they were Jews. When they were released from jail, they were allowed to take one suitcase of belongings each and told they had to get out of the country-or else.
Her father never recovered. He was shattered and was not able to practice law in Israel. The second generation did better, the third generation are "sabras".
But they had everything. It was all stolen from them.
Of course similar tales are told from Jews from all Arab/Muslim countries.
So please, spare me the sob stories about Palestinians and "their" land being "stolen".
Unless there are reciprocal tears shed and reparations made to Jews from Arab lands, I'm just not interested.
